Gas is gas, its all the same. The difference is the additives that each company puts into the gas right before it is delivered to the reseller. Overall Exxon has the best maintenance program on the process of adding these additives so in theory their product should be a little better in the long run.

I will buy gas from anywhere, it all depends on convenience but if there are multiple stations I normally choose the Exxon over any other brand. The most convenient to my house is Shell, but I avoid them like the plague now if at all possible. The Cadillac I had before the one I have now required premium fuel and I normally filled up at one of the several Shell stations near my house. On more than one occasion the car would run like crap so I would take it to the dealer. The result was always the same....Cadillacs monotor the octane level of the fuel and make adjustments accordingly, and in each instance the car's diagnostics reported 87 or lower octane instead of 91 to 93 that premium should have. I don't know if it was the Shell gas or the reseller passing regular off as premium, but either case sucks.

I had a mechanic tell me that gas loses octane rating after it sits for awhile. Can't remember exactly what the loss was. So if it has sat in the tanks, which might be the case with premium fuel, due to lower demand, than the octane can drop. This is why fuel saver products such as stabil are recommended for vehicles that are stored for a while, prevents octane loss and maintains the chemical balance of the fuel.

I use Shell or Chevron premium if I have a choice, otherwise it's whatever is available.

PS: Any of you use octane booster? Is it worth it? Any noticeable gain? Around here 91 is the highest octane you can find. I keep hearing of 93 in other parts of the country and am curious if any big gain with that.
I have used rocket fuel from the dealer and been pretty happy with it.

I have heard that the fuel all comes from the same tank and that it is just the additives that each brand uses that are the difference. I usually get better gas mileage from Cheveron gas than I do from Arco but when you boil it down to cost per mile it is usually pretty close to the same. I try to go to stations that are high volume so that I can get fresh gas. I used to pump gas for a while, Oregon doesn't have self serve, and I learned that high volume stations have the better gas. Had some clown try to tell me that he got water in his tank from us. Told him that was not possible. We got new gas two to three times a week and there wasn't time for water to build in the tanks.

My best source of gas has always been beans Just wish I could figure out how to use it for productive purposes [8D]

SoCal HDs like Chevron, but I wish 93 octane was still around. Toluene is expensive!

I forgot to mention I have not seen 93 octane here in Vegas. Its all 91 or 100 at rebel stations but you think $3.00 is high.
Premium has hit $3.00/gal. here (Baton Rouge) for the first time, and the Exxon refinery is 15 miles away. I think it will go higher through the summer, and an energy expert on NPR said gas would go up 50¢/gal. every year for the near future. Time for a hybrid HD, I guess.

SW Washington and the Portland OR area is seeing 92 at $3.39 - $3.45/gal. I hear that only Cali and Hawaii are more expensive than us. I heard an interview on the radio the other day with this fellow that had just visited Iran and the price of gas there is .. Are you ready?

$0.39/gal [:@]

Don't tell me there is an oil problem! There's a f@#$!n GREED problem! And Exxon reports 7.64 BILLION in profits for the 2nd qtr. Makes me mad that they can get away with this.
