Default New tires.

Havent been around here in like forever. Life got in the way . Got the bike out (06 glide classic) a couple months ago and found the rear tire ME880 was coming apart so I put on a couple Dunlop american elites . The bike now seems to me to be all over the place especially at about 80 on the highway ? The first ride the wife and I took which was about 100 miles and coupled with the interstate and back roads I didnt really notice it but racing home to beat a storm the other night it was nuts . We made a run last night and I noticed it even on the back 2 lane roads. Ive changed nothing else and I just turned 40k on the old girl. Tire pressures are 36 front and 40 rear just as H/D suggests as most of my riding is 2 up.
any ideas ?
Dave

Assuming the rear wheel is installed and inflated correctly, I'd check the front motor mount. On those year bikes, the front motor mount had a habit of shearing.

What condition is your front tire? My front looked like it had more usable tread, but was beginning to get squirrely. Especially when turning. I finally bought a new tire and removed the wheel , had it mounted by my indy. Problem disappeared! I think I had about 16k on the old front tire. JR

His OP indicated he had a "couple" dunlops installed so I'm pretty sure it's new.

I'd double check the spacers were installed correctly. Wouldn't be first time I seen tires installed without the spacers. Kind of hard to screw the alignment on these bikes.

You're not the first to peel tread on a Metzler. I have found that Dunlops have a tendency to be all over the road sometimes. Check everything that has been suggested, but don't rule out the fact that it just might be the tires.

For two up, I'd put 40 lbs in front tire and 45 in rear. IMHO
How are rear shocks, air pressure??
Good luck

As others have mentioned play with pressure and check mounting, even make sure the tire was put on the right direction, good luck safe riding

Ya.. brand new and now thinking back (yes the spacers are correct and its on right) The first ride was with me and the wife on the back and it was fine going 80 down the interstate and on the back 2 lane roads . I now remember the pressure being a lot higher in the front. I just contacted a friend in Canada that sells and mounts tires and he told me the Dunlop rep was out to see him a couple years ago and that he suggested 40 front and 42 rear. Now the other thing is I may have a rim leak around the bead somewhere. I let the bike sit for well over a week as I was in Indiana for a week of racing and beer drinking. I will get the front back to 40 and take a ride and if its good I will have to watch the pressure and see whats going on .
