Glade to hear you & your wife weren't injured too bad and that bike faired pretty darn good too still being able to ride it home.

But thanks for posting this because it gives us all a wake up call how quick something can happen when your looking in the miirror for 1-2 seconds to assess traffic cond behind you.

I did the same thing rear ending a car at approx 5-10mph right after i bought my 1st brand new bike at the time which was a 1976 kawi Z1 900 which didnt damage the bike or car bumper at all.

It was totally my fault because i was checking out a hottie bent over with short shorts on while peddling her bike then looked back in front of me to see a car stopped dead in front of me & bounced off the bumper at 5-10mph not damaging the bike or the car so all was ok.

Really? You see, I don't understand this logic. I don't think about going down... ever. What good does carrying that thought around with me do, other than take up valuable storage space in the few brain cells I have left. I certainly don't pull out of the garage every day thinking, will this be the day I go down or drop my bike? If it happens, it happens, but I'm not gonna waste time thinking about it.

I don't get it either. If I believed in the "not if but when" philosophy, I'd stay home & knit something.

Not saying it'll never happen to me, but I think my chances are pretty good. And I have to think the number of bikers that get through life without a crash far outnumber those who went down some time. Insurance rates would be a lot higher if it was all doom & gloom.

Not only does it take up valuable space in your brain, but it also invites you to lay down your bike because you are constantly thinking about it. The law of attraction comes into play and your thoughts become a self-fulfilling philosophy. That which you focus on, will materialize at some point.

While there are those rare instances where something literally happens out of the blue that we won't be able to fully avoid, the vast majority of "whens," as OP calls them, are completely avoidable by the rider, including the one described by OP. The more we focus on avoiding the "when" the less likely the "when" is to happen.
