Default Ignition Problems w/ '07 FLHTC

Ok, here's the problem. At times, after I have been running for a while, and I turn the engine off, when I try to restart the engine, I lose power to the radio and the "start" switch fails to do anything. At this point, I turn everything off and go through the complete sequence....1) Ingnition on, 2) prime the fuel injection, 3) stay in neutral, and it starts right up. This failure happened to me twice several days ago when I stopped for fuel....I immediately took in to the dealership and they, at first, said it was nothing urgent. Of course, it started right up several times. HOWEVER, finally I had the failure in front of the tech/service manager. I made an appointment to bring the bike in. Has anyone else had this problem?

I occasionally get the same thing but haven't brought it in yet. It happened to me one time after washing the bike so I thought it had something to do with that but it happened after that also. I have already checked my battery and terminals and ground. Let us know what they say.

The problem is it will never happen to them! [sm=confused06.gif]

I've had this on my 07 Ultra as well. Read in an earlier post that it is in the ignition switch. I have had success in moving/rotating or simply jigglingthe ignition switch when it "acts up".

I heard that MOCO changed someones ignition switch out?? That was the earlier post.....

I had that problem long time ago. before bringing in to shop desided to try one last simple thing-replaced the relay from and auto parts store. it was cheap and it worked. they can last forever or crap out tomorrow. remember it was clicking also. just a thought

Last weekend I turned my bike hard right to get into the garage and it stalled. Plus I noticed that I lost all the power and ignition lights. I had recently installed a painted inner fairing and was thinking that I may have pinched a wire. So I took the outer fairing off and started looking at everything that I might have came in contact with. Found that the three wire harness to the ignition switch was the problem. When the plug was assembled the center wire was not completely into the plastic plug allowing the small locks to secure properly into the plug. I removed the wire and with a small flat bladed screwdriver I bent the locking tabs outward slightly so when pushed back into the plug they would lock securely into place. Then I used a Zip tie to hold it firmly into position giving me the secure feeling of a trouble free ride! Sucks that on an 07 Ultra the owner would feel the need to do this himself, but I have heard so many horror story's lately I'm not willing to take a chance on some things!! Heading to Myrtle Beach in less than two weeks and I want my bike!!!!!!!!! Maybe this will apply to your situation Lenny

This may sound crazy but last weekend I was in stop and go traffic and engine was hot so I shut it off while waiting, same thing happened twice before I figured out what happened. I got lazy wasn't squeezing the clutch lever all the way in. 07's have a clutch switch and it only took a 1/8" to make it happen. after that no problem.

rmc115,

I have an '07 Ultra but I don't need to pull the clutch to start mine. Maybe I have an earlier build date?

On most occasions after shutting my bike off when I went to restart I turned swich to ignition and nothing, turn to access then back to ignition and it is fine. Bike going for service and Rineharts later this week and will get them to check that. I thought it was just mine. Has anyone had an Ultra lowered???? I need it to be just a bit lower.
