This may sound crazy but last weekend I was in stop and go traffic and engine was hot so I shut it off while waiting, same thing happened twice before I figured out what happened. I got lazy wasn't squeezing the clutch lever all the way in. 07's have a clutch switch and it only took a 1/8" to make it happen. after that no problem.
Yes 07's have clutch switch, found out when i put chrome switch housings on, only the newest version housings will fit. I tried it this morn and it will start in neutral without the lever pulled in, I never leave it in neutral.
you must either be CLUTCHED IN or you must be in neutral on the tranny for the ignition switch to work.
HD finally did something 'good' in some aspects so you don't accidently get a LURCH when starting thinking it is in neutral and it isn't.
Sometimes just because the Neutral switch is 'on' doesn't always mean it is totally in neutral. It definately means it is 'close' but possibly could also be a little engaged.
if the tranny is in neutral rock it to make sure.. then hit the switch.
That Neutral/Clutch-in change they made helped me out once from accidently trying to start the bike in gear.
Typically I like to try and start with the tranny in Neutral. I've found clutch-in can still let the bike try and move a little when starting.
I was a having a problem with the RKC a couple of times with it not wanting to start a making a tapping noise. Turned out ground wire was loose. Thankfully, it decided to die (not start)right at the dealership, so fixing was easy.
