i have a 8.5 in klockwerks and i love it. i had a 7 inch straight on my ultra but hated it. im 6 1 and i look just over the top of it so its perfect. they aint cheap but was worth the cost to me. shoots most of the air over my head so its doing what its suppose to do
I have had the Klockwerks windshield on my last two SG's and love it. I think it is the 6.5". I know when I bought my 2011 SG (used), it had the 8" Klockwerks shield on it and that was too high for me so I was glad I saved the shorter one when I traded in my '06. I look over the shield and get some wind to the face, but my glasses are steady and I don't get buffeting - exactly what I was trying to cure.
My dealer let me try before I bought. They had demo models for the HD and KW and maybe others. Hated the HD shield (I tried 2 different heights and hated them both). But, everyone has their owndruthers.
So it looks like 100% in favor of the recurved windshields.
I ordered a 10" straight one off Ebay, just because it was $35, shipped, but I'll probably try a recurved one too. Memphis Shades says their Spoiler is like a straight windshield 2.5" higher. Maybe if the 10" one works I'll go with an 8" recurve.
I have a LRS re-curve. The LRS website has info about how to measure to get a windshield that fits you. Every body is different, torso length etc.
+1 on LRS. I just got an 8" ultra with light tint and it works good for me. If you have the time wait on their sale for a great price. If you don't want to wait, you can get it for $69 with free shipping on Amazon which is still a good deal. Check out their website to see how to measure and if you have any questions just email them and they'll get right back to you.
Stock Road King shield was way too tall for me (5'9"), I hate looking through the shield. I went to a Memphis shades Batwing with a 7" shield but since then I've settled on a 9" recurve from LRS, can look over it and no buffeting and LRS has huge discounts most of the time.
Had a 7 inch Clearview on my Electra Glide Classic and it was great. I put a 9 inch Cee Devil from Cee Bailey and love it. The extra 2 inches gives a bigger clear air pocket.
I'm 6'1 and got the 7" recurve polycarbonate from LRS. It's a perfect fit for me, let's the air just tickle my face so I still feel like I'm riding in the wind. For long trips on the super slab I'll put my 12" shield back on, don't like catching small rocks in the face from all the trucks around here.
