Forward facing camera with dvr?
One thing I learned through the process is that most car dash cams are designed to mounted from the windshield and are then upside down when you find a mountable solution on a bike. So having one that will "flip" the image will be important.
I don't want to cut into my fairing but I think an ideal location would be through a hole in the fairing above the headlight. I had mine mounted via a mount on the windshield. At idle there was vibration but it smoothed out when riding.
While a Go Pro will now do a continuous loop recording I am reluctant to mount one just of this. I see a cheap dash cam as something you set and forget until you need it. It always turns on, records X minutes/hours in a loop, you copy off what you need at some point. I see a Go Pro or similar as a tool to document a specific ride, provide content for editing, and archiving.
If you do a Go Pro or similar be sure it can operate while charging. I tried one model, not a Go Pro, and it would run from batteries but shut down while charging. Not much good for a continuous record.
I did find this package specific for motorcycles:

So far I'm too cheap to spend the money.
