For me the biggest pain riding in the rain is all the grit and crap from traffic spray. In heavy downpours riding in traffic a windshield is only going to give you so much protection. Even with a ff helmet with a rainx-ed shield I find myself needing to wipe the crud off. Unless Im expecting lousy weather I generally wear a half lid and bring googles that fit over my rx glasses so they wont get scratched. Ive never used them but Ive seen gloves with little squeegees built on the thumb. Just a few points to ponder....

I wear a half helmet, if I know it is going to be a bad run of weather I snap on a half shield on. I keep it in the bag with the rain gear. It sucks in town because if fogs up, but on the open road it makes a sucky situation a little less miserable. I have used it with and without glasses on underneath with varying degrees of success. Hard rain is going to get under anything. And double fogging (glasses and shield) really sucks.

I use a product called Raincoat Water Repellent. It's safe on plastics and used on helicopters & aircraft. Works very well.

any product that will resist fogging is necessary, I got caught this weekend and hadn't reapplied my anti fog and boy did I regret it!

I have these. The yellow lens brightens up the rainy ride!

Buy some cat crap lens cleaner anti fog. I bought mine at a ski area and did both my goggles and glasses and no fog at all.

Not sure how it works with rain, but at least the lenses will not fog.

rain hurts too. but I have a pair of ski/snowmobile goggles for the heavy stuff. they have the foam seal and are fog resistant. they also cover more of my face than glasses, less painful. water slides right off them too.

Get you face into the wind. It will blow the rain off your glasses. I have to do that occasionally even with a full face helmet.

The best option is a half helmet with the snaps across the front for a shield. Luckily I took my wife's helmet with me on my last road trip. It had snaps. I spent three days riding in the rain. I put yellow lenses in my glasses and ran her tinted shield and it wasn't an issues at all. As others said, just sit up in the wind to clear the shield occasionally.
