haha I once took a newbie to a bike nite thing, we got there and it was packed. I parked my bike in a empty place in front of pop ups,a old 3patcher asks if I want to enter it in the show !! I say sure. They were calling my name as I won !! My bike is a hammered on dropped upside down in rock pile, mutt with parts from about 8 different Harley models and is for riding. It was bug splattered and smelled like **** as I happened upon a trail of liquefied cow crap on a narrow curve and rode in the trail about 20 yards, it was still drippin off the bike at the judging !!
They handed me the mike the mike to tell about my bike !! Told them it was a retired Cop bike modified to suit me and I said unlike 98% of the bikes here I actually ride mine all the time no matter what conditions. I got applause and laughter!!
I think you guys might be missing the pernt. Yes; I love to ride, too. But...I ALSO love the experience of detailing my bike, doing maintenance, etc. It's nice to step back & look at your sled after a good detailing, & if you keep your bike nice from the get go, it shouldn't take more than 1/2-1 hour. It's all part of the whole experience. Plus--you always feel like you have a new bike.
My only thing about riding in the rain is the safety factor.
............kinda like having a pretty woman on your arm. ha!
People criticize my dirty bike all the time. Sorry, but I'd rather be riding it than cleaning it. If I'm not riding it, it's because I don't have the time. If I have the time to clean, I have the time to ride. In which case, I'm riding. There is no therapy in cleaning for me, but there is therapy riding.
A wash and detail at the start of the season, and one towards the end (before it gets too cold and the water freezes!). The occasional two minute hose down with water only. If it's caked mud I will sponge, but if I'm out there longer than 10 minutes I fell asleep or I'm talking to the neighbor.
I guess I am a little different than most. The last 4 Harley's I have owned have never and I mean never been wet. I buy them in new condition and they leave me in new condition. All of my **** is spotless near all the time. My dad told me as a young lad that it is easy and anybody can have a dirty car, bike, yard or house but not everybody can have them clean because by the most part us humans are lazy by nature. I have raised my kids to work very hard on keeping there stuff spotless.
I dunno.....you should always try to take care of your belongings. I am getting wiser....bought black denim. Life doesn't get any better. Wet rag and away I go. Hahaha.... Never been so happy!

Wonder how long it will take for my gloss black to acquire the denim look
