i am the proud owner of a new 2015 street glide special, and i am looking to change the chrome covers on the bike for wrinkle black.as well as the headlamp for HID and HID aux running lights. any thing i should know about that will be a HUGE pain in the *** when i do this? thanks in advance for any assistance!
Before I had the LED headlights, I ran HID's from DDM tunning. They're a popular brand in the BMW car world. I have these HID's in one of my vehicles too. They are VERY affordable, and of good quality. There's really no need to spend $150+ on an HID kit.
As for the wrinkle covers for the engine, I waited for the winter, drained all my fluids, and took all those covers off and had them powder coated wrinkle black. 3 year so far and everything has held up fine. Just remember to replace your gaskets when reinstalling everything. I had them do the primary, the derby cover, the cam cover, the side transmission cover, the top transmission cover and the starter cover.
I considered buying the covers in wrinkle black, and then trying to sell the chrome ones, but everyone has the chrome cover already, so who would want them? I spent about the same to powder coat them as I would if I bought new covers and sold the old ones, without the hassle of trying to find buyers. There obviously is some downtime, but work it out with a coating shop and see if they can turn them around quick for you.
thanks for all the advice, guys. i have been looking at a LOT of Harleys over the years, and i have to admit now that i have one of my own i better understand why i wanted one. i am a small guy so for me it is like riding a couch to and from work ( a 1 hour and 15 min ride BTW) i have always liked the wrinkle black so i am not out there cleaning and polishing chrome (im a neat freak) i will make sure i get the gaskets as well when i get the covers. i almost forgot about that part. lookin forward to posting some before and after pics here for you guys to see. See you out on the road somewhere!
well she's only a plain jane 2015 street glide, but she's going to be a rolling tribute to my late wife Tiffany, who always wanted to ride, and never got the opportunity. So now the bike carries her name, and she rides with me wherever i go...soon the paint job will show it too but that won't happen until next winter. that way the artist doing the work has plenty of time to work it. you guys will get pics then too! hope to see you out on the road someday!

ok at least the primary cover is on... but the aux lights i installed won't light up when i push the switch... lol oh well more troubleshooting to do lol.

My aux lights ground through the mount. If they're coated or painted there might not be a good connection there. You might have to clean a little coating/paint off so you get good metal to metal contact.
OK.... so the primary cover is replaced, but one of the short bolt heads stripped out, thankfully i was able to get it out... the derby cover is on, the upper trans cover is on, the trans side cover will not fit on my specific ride, so i have to re order it, if it exists for the 2015 street glide special with hydraulic clutch, and have to remove the headers to change out the cam cover..... so that will have to wait till i get back from my frontsight class this weekend... re-verified the wiring schematics with the service manual, and everything appears to be wired properly, but still no AUX lights when the key is on and the switch is on. tried a different ground thanks for the advice, ( the post that the nuts tighten down to hold on the light bars) still no joy... perhaps it is from using a quick connect instead of an inline splice... i will have to try that next and see if it finally works.as soon as i get it all done, i will post the pics
