Was riding my bike the other day and the ride was just horrible. So I came back home inspected the tires and noticed a screw in my rear tire and realize the horrible ride was because the tire has lose a lot of air. Might be a dumb question but if I don't ask I'll never know. Do HD tires have a tube in the inside, meaning I can just replace the tube and keep the tire or will I need to buy a new rear tire? 09 RKC
Yeah just let you know I had an 03 Road King with spokes ,experience the same problem driving down the interstate and felt like I was in a rut the back end of the motorcycle was swaying back and forth I finally stopped and checked it out and found that my spokes were extremely loose I nursed at home tightened all the spokes to Specs to the wheel and was fine after that they say about every eight to ten Thousand Miles you should you check an retighten your spokes ..since then I sold the bike and I never bought a bike again with spokes LOL
When you go to replace the tube, inspect the hole size that is left in the tire itself. It may need some type of attention or replacing to keep something from puncturing the tube from the outside. Had it happen before.
There are spoked rims that are tubless.
I don't know about HDs though, the last spoked wheels I had were on a metric cruiser a dozen years ago and I didn't keep it long enough to have to do tires.
If the tread on yours is still good I'd get a new tube and have a patch (like a tubeless repair) put on the inside.
I run RideOn in both my 2012 RGU with mag wheels and now on my 2001 RKC with spoke wheels and tube tires. If you bike up a nail or screw that is not too big it will not leak.
