We need a statement from Jamie. I have the quiet baffle and now riding 2 up I plan to ride with it 4000 miles. I will await Jamie or Brian's response to the use of the quiet baffle, not to the op

I would welcome Jamie or Brian to address this on this forum.
I DO think they are a good company, and appreciate the quick replacement of the part. My intentions are purely to inform others who may want this part for distance touring! I have no beef with them, other than not being clear on the limitations of the product. How many others have bought this quiet baffle for distance touring, or are considering it?

(amazing how many FuelMoto cheerleaders there are out there)... got their hackles up, didn't I?!!!

Normally I would agree with you. But something like a baffle is not the type of product that would normally be something a consumer would second-guess in terms of mileage. It would be kind of like buying an oil filter that was only good for 200 miles before it fell apart. IMO, something like that would warrant a disclaimer on the purchase screen about mileage and suitability.

Both Brian and I are well aware of this customers dissatisfaction with the quiet baffle. We have exchanged an assortment of emails and calls regarding his dissatisfaction and other details, however we do not discuss the context on the open forum respectfully. What happened with the baffle is the removable silent insert fractured at the weld, Fuel Moto not only warrantied & replaced this insert we replaced the entire quiet baffle assembly for no charge.

The quiet baffle for the Jackpot mufflers is a two piece design. Unlike the straight thru louvered standard core that comes in the muffler the optional quiet baffle is a chambered design, exhaust passes thru a diverter cell and sound is absorbed more efficiently into the muffler. The quiet baffle lowers the dB level considerably, on most combinations splitting the sound level about half way between stock and the standard Jackpot baffle. The second part of the kit includes what we call we call the silent insert, this insert fits the rear section of the quiet baffle and is easily removed/installed with an allen bolt. The quiet insert brings the exhaust sound to near stock dB level and is designed for times when you need maximum sound reduction such as at a campground or leaving for work early. While the silent insert can be ran for extended periods it was not really designed for long distance running, as it is considerably more restrictive. Similar silent inserts are used extensively in other market segments such as MX, off road, ATV, & metric for the same intended usage.

To me - this just proves what a top-notch company Fuel-Moto is - so why bash them and refuse to buy from then again is what I don't understand

Again, you're entitled to buy from whomever you wish - as for myself I will continue to support Fuel-Moto
"When the situation requires it" is hardly clear about the limitations of the baffle.

JMC22, I drink the cool-aid too. I will continue to drink it. They're a company that's second to none in product and customer service, but that doesn't mean that every batch is a good one. Companies across the board do recalls as a result of tainted or faulty product, and it doesn't mean the company doesn't make quality product 99.999% of the time.

I read the OP's claims with an open mind realizing that there very well could be more to the story than is being told. I don't know, and I don't care. That being said, I find it entertaining that so many people so quickly get rankled when their favorite company is "attacked". It's silly. We all know that FM is TOP notch, but no person and no company is perfect.

To the OP.....I probably would have tailored the post a little differently, but we're all different. That being said, prepare to get flamed big time. I bought a set of V&H baffles for my High Output slipons......what a complete turd those turned out to be! I didn't however post up stating that V&H's as a company was deceitful in their marketing. They're in fact another exemplary company that I stand behind, and I love their product 99.999% of the time. That's a pretty good "batting average" in my book.

Sorry for FM and for you that the baffle didn't work out so well for you.

Thanks for your factual post, a company that stands behind their products would have issued a refund, more so because they know the LIMITATIONS of the device and they do not make you aware of it when purchasing.
I would be interested to see you bring up the matter to someone higher in the company, seems any reasonable company would issue a refund and updated their site

i can agree with the OP being unhappy about the issue, i have dealt with FM and loved their service and sounds like they replaced the item as they should. i also agree that it should be more clear of the limitations of the product listed on their site. the post jamie posted her explains it very well but it should have been known up front. from this i would not hesitate to buy from FM again.

Having offered this baffle since 2009 with many hundreds if not thousands of our optional baffles in the field we have not ran into any issues. I will add that we in no way blamed how insert was used for its failure, I speculate is was a weld or material fatique issue, it simply should not have happened and which we took complete responsibility. When we have any failure we take it very seriously and gather as much information as possible, in this example after talking with the customer we simply noted that the silent insert was not designed to be used for long distance touring, not that it could not be just that running the insert is very restrictive.

We apoligize for any confusion created and any inconvenience this may caused, we will make a forward effort to educate customers on this item and similar product we carry from other manufacturers.
