Had it done on my old Dyna for some Thunderheaders. Definitely decreased the amount of heat I felt from them (they didn't have heat shields) and added a nice black look to the bike. Other than that it didn't do much, I only got it done since it was on special that month ($200 for the pipes).

I went with ceramic fuel moto headers. It removes the cat which is probably the biggest reason it is cooler, but I did not take IR header temps prior to switching so I cannot tell you the difference. I have a IR Temp reader now so I can give you my current header exhaust shield temps, but no before and after. I know it made a lot of difference for my bike. I just returned from 640 mile weekend ride in the Eastern Washington Scablands, something that was very uncomfortable before installing the FM ceramic headers. As long as I was rolling, I never thought about the heat. I can place my legs on the pegs, on the floorboards or anywhere I damn please. Prior to the header change, the heat would build up under my legs something awful when on the hwy bar pegs and it was almost as bad when they were on the floorboards.

'Had the V&H PowerDuals coated at Polydyn when doing the 117 Build on the '09, I didn't do any before / after testing with a heat gun, but "The Ball & Chain" remarked that the bike was a lot more comfortable for her now.

Not cheap, the finish is durable and as new at 16k+

FM & others sell pipes already coated, that is the route I would go if I needed a new header...
