you can't really clean them properly w/o an ultrasonic cleaner - I'd stick with the stock filter - it's designed to flow enough and clean enough as long as you change them when you are supposed to. Spend the money on something important, like chrome haha
K&P's video on how to clean it doesnt mention an ultrasonic cleaner.
Three years on my K&P. Easy to clean and flows better especially on cold start ups. Stock filter with cold oil on a cool day will by-pass the filter media until warmed up.
I just want to clear up this flow thing on a normal engine with a bypass pressure regulator like the HD motor.
ANY oil filter will flow 7 to 10 times MORE flow than the engine oil galleries will allow. So all this my filter flows more is nothing but a misunderstood concept and marketing ploy. Most any filter will actually filter better than any stainless steel mesh filter. You need to read up on surface versus depth filtration. Most of the oil your pump puts out is actually just bypassed to the sump.
But, since for the change intervals we use, a filter is not even really necessary, use what ever makes you happy. You really just want to collect the big chunks if something comes apart.
You can go to sites like Bob is the oil guy and others to get past the many myths and old wives tails out there about Tribology. It is an actual science and is very sophisticated. Most of what you hear is myth and urban legend because Daddy did it this way.
Use ANY filter and ANY oil of the proper rating, change it at the recommended interval and your bike will run for hundreds of thousands of miles. Oils and filters today are ALL very good.
As others have stated I've been using this filter for over 6 yrs on 3 different bikes with roughly 90,000 mi combined,no issues and its paid for itself 3 x over. JMO
I am using the same KP filter I had on a 2009 SG and now on a 2014 RK. I am staying with this filter. An ultrasonic cleaner is not needed for cleaning. Follow the KP cleaning instructions. I cant say the KP filter runs the engine cooler. The idle and cruise oil pressure are higher with the KP. My main benefit is under 5 minutes I can pull the filter and know if anything is caught in the filter without having to hacksaw open a paper filter.

Interesting. I'm curious as to how it paid for itself 3 times over. Please to explain.

I'm curious. What about any non-ferrous/non-magnetic pieces too small to be caught by the wire mesh filter media?
Also, anyone that 'hacksaws' a filter is never going to know what pieces came from the motor and what pieces came from the hacksaw. The filter should be cut open with a pair of tin snips.
