So the local dealer here in the greater Sacramento area carries the K&P Engineering oil filter; all of the parts guys and the service department guys endorse this thing. Now its pricy- $149. But is it good?
With the trip to Sturgis looming in just a month for me, should I make the switch to this for my '15 SGS? Forget about the cost...its no biggie for me. What I am interested in is for this thread is performance, experience with it, and the quality (I do not mind paying for quality).
I don't know if this the same type filter, but I put this on my sportster and haven't really noticed any difference.. and I am happy enough that I am going to put one on my road king next oil change....but they say it flows better and that is a good thing...
Yea, apparently, from what I was told by the parts and service guys, the flow is better, the magnet pick up of small metal pieces (normal wear and tear stuff) is better, and the bike should run 10-15 degrees cooler...
you can't really clean them properly w/o an ultrasonic cleaner - I'd stick with the stock filter - it's designed to flow enough and clean enough as long as you change them when you are supposed to. Spend the money on something important, like chrome haha

Anyone have experience with this?
This has been much discussed in the past. Polarizing to say the least.
I do don know anything about them other than what I have read. I do however believe in K&N quality so that is all I use. With regular oil changes and quality oil I personally think it is overkill but JMO FWIW. Also with K&N you do not need a filter wrench as it has a nut on it. I run K&N air filters on all cages and bikes as well. Sounds to me though that you have already talked yourself into it???

Ultrasonic cleaners are cheap enough...like I said, the money thing isn't that huge of an issue.
My FXR cxame with that filter on it. It's a 124 and the guy I bought from added all the high dollar stuff. Would I have bought it? Nope. Will I leave it on there since it is there? Yup.
