I recently picked up a 2005 electra. An old cop bike. Love it so far, but I am pretty short. About 5' 8" but short legs. I spoke at length with the guys at progressive. Ultimately we came down to 12" rear 412s. He assured me that would equate to more than 1" lower than the stock 13" air shocks that came on it. It is undoubtably lower. However I am not sure low enough. I only rode about 30miles since the switch this morning. My question is.... Should I try an sell them and pick up some 11" or perhaps throw the front end kit from progressive in and see if that gets me closer to my desired height? The reason I did not go with the 11" shocks to begin with is because the tech guy at progressive highly reccomends againts it. I weigh about 185lbs and do the majority of my riding 1 up. But from time to time my girlfriend does like a ride
Hi I picked up a electra police bike earlier this year too. with the police seat an 13" shocks it was way too high for my 30" inseam. I put one inch lowering blocks an a very flat solo seat an it really helped. I just went with the air ride which is nice, I can lower it down for foot grip with I need to back it up but the ride is pretty firm. Now I'm getting air leaks already. I may go with some 11.5" shocks. 11 seem too short. with the lowering blocks you can 1 or 2 inch lower an it keeps the travel. I hear shorter shocks have firmer springs.
5'7' here and stock seat and shocks on my 08 Ultra.. Fits me fine. I thought I needed to lower it but, it just took some time to get comfortable with the weight of the bike.. Came off a Heritage and there was an adjustment period. Might give it some time before more adjustments are made.
I put a cop seat on my bike precisely because it sat me higher and more comfortably that any other seat out there, and trust me it is exactly the wrong seat for a short inseamed rider.
12 is as low as id go,next narrow seat, then thick soled boots and a riders backrest, gives ya something to push against when backing and holds ya closer to the bars.then if still not enough drop the front.
