Well the bike has beaten the Calais blockade and has made it to the dealer here in London. Pipes etc now being fitted so fingers crossed it should be ready for collection on Monday. Happy 40th to me! Hurrah!
I think you made the right choice. For my 40th birthday I bought a VRSCF (V-rod Muscle). By my 41st birthday I traded it for a new Ultra Classic.
I really liked the Muscle and it was great for a 10 minute ride somewhere, but with no bags, no cruise and no real wind blockage it wasn't a touring bike. I tend to ride longer distances and carry things with me so a touring bike is a better fit.
Well I picked up the SGS tonight. Spent an hour in almost stationary traffic (narrow London roads) and it performed admirably. The only thing missing is the replacement air cleaner as it wasn't in on time to collect the bike. The dealer will slip that on in the next few days. Hurrah!

congratulations! hope you get it out in the wide open countryside soon
I could only afford one payment either 4 wheels or a bike. Love the BO & have owned two Vrods. I put throw over bags on the Vrod wish I still had pictures. I couldn't keep the pics because I was missing the bike so much. I guess what I'm saying is you can make the BO whatever you want and then strip it down get a quick detach backrest for a bag which doesn't look bad at all on the bike. Street Glides are great I had one of those to, but unless you're traveling pretty regularly it's not a necessity though it does have its creature features. Good luck on your choice
