Default Bad year for Oklahoma

I was driving home last night on I35 in North Oklahoma City (Edmond) and found I couldn't get off at my 2nd street exit , which also happens to be Rt 66, because a pretty bad motorcycle crash was blocking the off ramp. Must have just happen because there were no emergency crews yet and the fire station is less than a mile down the road. But what really surprised me was another motorcycle down just a few hundred yards up the highway almost blocking the on ramp. I guess one crash may have Caused the other.

Reading the paper every morning this summer, it seemed like there was a motorcycle fatality every other day. That was verified in the news last when it reported 17 motorcycle deaths in the month of June for Oklahoma. I Have a feeling July is going to be worse.

I can't really understand the rash of accidents. One crash in June killed a local celebrity sports caster. It was a big deal here, so everyone was talking about the risk of riding. But what stood out for me was a local dealer had a very quiet Saturday. One of the used bikes on the floor was a consignment of a rider who called it quits because of the death.

My wife is hinting of her concerns for my safety, but she knows better to say too much because she understands my passion. Still, it seems I'm being reminded of the risk a lot lately. It's hitting pretty close to home.

I'm just rambling to my brothers, but you all be safe.

I feel you Beary. As the years of riding add up, the more brothers we lose to the road. Every single day it seems I'm reminded of the fragility of life, the chance of a distracted motorist changing the lives of everyone in my family, and the pain that would bring to the people I love most. But after 45 years of riding, I can't imagine ever getting off my bike. I may be removed soon, but it won't be my decision. My bikes are too much a part of what makes this life so rewarding, my thing.
Ride safe.

That's terrible, we have had quit a few here in Mi also.
We can't allow others to dictate our passions in life (un- safe drivers/don't pay attention).
I am not saying it is always the cars fault.

The other day I wanted to stop a guy and yank him off his bike, he was making a left from a red light and decided to take off before the first driver went through from the opposite direction, the kicker was he did not even try to go fast, he was taking his time like he had a green arrow. I don't get it.

We had a fatality not to long ago a guy doing wheelies on a busy street, again just things riders should be doing in a controlled area.

But either way it is sad, to here of all the fatalities from state to state.

Ride safe.

We have had 4 deaths in the past 10 days and several other wrecks. My wife has driven past 2 of them. Thankfully she hasn't broached the subject.

There a lot of inexperienced riders out there. They take an MSF Course and think they are 10' tall and bullet proof. We had a jogger find a wrecked bike and rider yesterday morning, the guy may have been there all night, no one really knows.

THIS! If I had to give up my Harleys at this point in my life, I would just give up and die! I don't get to ride as much as I once did, but every mile helps me cope with life now a days.

I hear your concern loud and clear, beary. Most the time when we have a bike crash, fatal, or not, it involves one of these crotch rockets doing 120mph in rush hour traffic. But oftentimes it involves also an innocent rider who got hit by one of those regardless idiots who have their phone pressed to the ear and not paying any attention to their surrounding. Those are the hazards I fear most whenever I ride. Unfortunately there are only very few states that have politicians with ***** who outlawed the phone use while driving. That should be a nationwide law.

Most of the accidents lately around here have been single motorcycle accidents. Usually loss of control for one reason or another and usually an older male rider. Typically the crotch rocket guys are very good riders, even though they act like idiots sometimes. One lately was an older rider on a Harley through road construction, he passed around 2 MODOT trucks then slammed into the back of the 3rd. I have no idea how that could have happened other than lack of attention.

Your comment made me wonder what each state's law is. Found this, cannot vouch for its accuracy but it is quite an eye opener.
