and a Road Glide Custom windshield, which makes me think it may have been wrecked at one point.
not necessarily. a lot of guys change out the bigger ultra windshields for something a little more sportier. if you're looking for wreck damage, check the underside good. especially, that little tab where the 'engine guard' bolts to the frame. if that's tweaked, then there is a good chance that it is a wreck.
don't take a little tweak on that tab lightly. many (most?) insurance companies will consider a bike totaled it that tab is tweaked as to fix it properly will require a frame swap.
The question about the Comp. Release was for Buelligan666.
Here's a page from the service manual that explains the ACR.
No, my Electra has no ACRs. I verified that last year.
I didn't mean to imply all the bikes at J&J are rental bikes. That was just my experience. I do believe they buy a lot of their used Harley inventory at auction. None of the bikes I saw there looked like they were wrecked rebuilds. I think they come from dealer trade ins, rentals and obviously repos. My experience with them was positive, granted my bike may have been beat on some since it was a rental. It had signs of light lay overs, nicks, and scratches. It runs like top, looks good, and was the perfect unmolested base for what I wanted to turn it into. Don't be afraid of a few miles on the odometer, and research its history. Best of luck. Like I said, if that bike was there, I'd be on it instead.
Check the title. If it's been totalled, they would have a salvage title, right? Is there a Carfax for bikes where you can run the VIN and look at the bike's history?
Generally, if it was salvage, the title would reflect it and a dealer would've obligated to inform you during the sale. It's a used bike. Plan on needing to clean it up and spin a wrench or two. Consider it part of the process of making it your own.
I'd be all over that for that price. I paid nearly book for my 10 with 35k on it. Don't be scared of the miles if it was taken care of. Especially if you do your own work. Mine needed a main drive gear bearing and compensator not long after buying it but what's $700 when you're talking a 15k plus bike lol

I rebuilt a couple Limited's that had been totaled. When I bought them the Title said Salvage. When I fixed them up and they passed inspection the title said Rebuilt. That's how Utah does it.
Agreed. Each state is different but anything that's been through salvage will have an altered title as opposed to a "clean" original title. Call it salvage, rebuilt, or what have you, it's still not a "factory" style title. Often, anything with a non-standard title can be difficult and costly to insure.
