Can't give much input on the stock shocks on my 15' SGS as I one of the first things I did was install a set of 13" JRI shocks on the rear & getting ready to install a Progressive set-up in the front as soon as they arrive from J&P Cycles

My frame of reference is probably different, as I rode rigids for a large portion of my adult life. That being said, I think the stock suspension is pretty nice.

I think it's absolute crap that Harley still has such lousy suspension. I guess for the majority Harley riders who put less than 3k miles per year on their bikes it's not such a big deal.

In my opinion it is driven by cost. Harley does not want to invest in a completely new frame design that will allow for more suspension travel.

Consider the ROI... From a corporate perspective, how many more bikes will they sell above and beyond their current levels just because the bikes ride better? I don't think the delta will justify the multiple millions necessary in changing frame/suspension design and likely fenders/fairings as well to accommodate increased travel.

Instead of replacing my Harley, I'm just going to add to the stable. Keep the buckboard ride HD for around town, and maybe buy an Indian or BMW for road trips.

SuperShox sells a 12" shock with 3" travel. They sit at 11 1/2". Just got a pair in the mail today and will be testing them this weekend.

Even going over little bumps my bike sounded like it was going to fall apart with how rough it rode. I've ridden hardtails before that felt a lot like my SGS did.
your problem was you're too light. you don't have enough weight to compress the shocks......

Wow...I had a 14 SGS, no issues with the suspension, loved the ride. Traded for 15 RGS, love the ride. Never bottomed out, wife is happy on the back, and we keep it set at a low compression. I'm 270lbs and my wife is 120lbs. To each his own!

Suspension is set at 17 turns according to Harley manual, anyway put progressive 944 on like night and day Harley stock suspension is dog crap, and I don't have email site I am just stating what it says. I would suggest to anyone with the touring adjustment shocks get rid of it garbage !!!!

I have the stock 12s on my RGS. I weigh 210. Even with the wife on the bike I have yet to bottom out. Maybe your extra 30 or so pounds is the difference, but I doubt it. I don't even have them on the stiffest setting. They are adjusted to right in the middle.
