A bit off topic:
From a former life here is some heavy oil for air cooled motors: aero engines take lots of oil, if I remember the DC6 had 37 gallons per engine and there are 4 of them. The 100 wt and heavier was a slow pour just using cans. AeroShell Multigrade W 15 W 50 AeroShell Oils W80, W100, W120
Man.....I love a good oil thread. Everyone's so very right about theirs being the one true best oil for everyone else's bike.

not me. I know what I like, I don't care what you use. fact is, with today's modern lubricants, as long as you use the right viscosity for the application, and change it at regular intervals, you're not gonna go wrong. heck, there are more than a few people who swear by the Walmart supertech oil for $1.99 qt......

That would be the oil that I use in the primary...20W-50 and still haven't changed anything but the comp spring pack (at 120,000 miles!) in the primary chain case (even the clutch plates are original.) Thank you very much!
Unless you wake up in the morning with 80+ degree ambient air temperature and go to bed with the same, using a straight 60 would more than likely leave you with a lubricant which is too thick at startup. Suggest 20w-50w as a much preferred alternative. If ever in doubt about something always defer to what the guys who built the device think. In this case the Harley owners manual. Good luck.

If we trusted them, then why all of the mods as soon as the bike leaves the showroom floor? Lots of knowledge out there.....just sayin....

Just a thought:
A friend of mine was a private motorcycle pilot who chose straight HD-W40 to compete with his Honda-Four at the 24h race called "Bol-d'Or" in the city of LeMans. Just before the race as he warmed up his engine the oil pressure cracked his engine casing open. That was the end of his project.
I think our oil filter bypass valve will remain open most of the time if the viscosity of the fluid is too high.
