I have the SE Stage 1 Intake with a K&N filter element and the new round cover and really like the appearance and performance. I went with a chromed backing plate (also by HD) to enhance the looks.
if you go the 'poor mans' route, you can purchase separately all the components needed to build your own se like it used to be (with a k&n filter) yes, you can use the stock football cover, but you could also go with the round cover if you choose.
I did last week and they do have 07' filter kit's.
> Complete Stage 1 Sucker kits are p/n 18-809 (scalloped cover) or 18-808 (smooth chrome cover ) which includes
backing plate, hardware, filter (not K&N) and a cover.
The Ness big Sucker is a very nice Kit. The chrome backplate is better than the ones I've seen. You know the heads breath/vent though the mounting bolts/holes the back plate is mounted with. The Ness backplate (and a few others) use an internal design where the vent is routed way back into the intake so there is little or no leaky oil dripping into the air filter out worse, out onto your pants. A few kits I've seen uses somewhat of a cheaper design where the vent holes are routed in front of the intake through either a black plastic channel or with the stock rubber hoses. The internal design that isvent holesmolded through the metal of the back plate is a better design. You'd have to have one apart to know what I'm talking about. Even if you use a cheaper back plate I have not heard anyone having any problems with those... I just like the Ness design thats all.
A few guys will put a cheaper kit together by just buyingthe high flow filter itself and then go to modifying the stock back plate, or buy some other aftermarket plate.
Those are great and there is nothing wrong with that, but for just 89-120 bucks you can get the whole kit from Ness.
When I say whole kit I mean you still use the stock football cover. Cool thing is, the back plate is round and you can then more or less just buy any 7" round cover and it will fit over the Ness back plate.
I've seen covers around here for 35 bucks to 200 bucks... just depends on what you want. I chose stock. I like the 07 football.
I've got a Ness big sucker on a 07, so yes they make one. Just remember whatever you put on, you have to program your PC or SERT to work with. That being said, I'd stick with a kit as opposed to putting one together yourself.
> If you bought the Arlen Ness air filter kit (with the A.N. filter), did you change out the filter to K&N?
(I hate to pay them for the kit just to toss the filter. I do want K&N).
> Is the open filter design loud or troublesome in the rain?
> What size cover fits it, other than A.N. covers?
I have the Big Sucker on my 07, no problem with the filter that came with it.
Stock cover fits right on, just take off the gasket that goes around it.
No problem with rain or any sucking sounds.
