I hope I am wrong but the HD description seems to indicate that Alaska is not part of the package "(*Domestic includes the following: Continental United States, Hawaii and Canada (limited coverage).)".

Hoping we can download new copies of the CDs. Mine are unreadable after 6 months. They were in the case in the tourpac and have been rubbing so they are scratched. Learned the hard way.

Now for a short GEOGRAPHY lesson.

ALASKA IS part of the CONTINENTAL US.

Just where in the heck do you think it is? Sitting out in the ocean off the West Coast like Rand McNally shows it?

You can drive to Alaska via Canada and you don't need to take a boat or a plane to get here.

Do not confuse "Continental" (which in this case means part of the North American continent) with "Contiguous" which means "touching or connected" as in the Contiguous 48 states.

Lesson ended.

I emailed HK a while back about updates and they referred me to HD. Of course I went to the dealership and all they could give me was a blank stare. I haven't taken the time to look at the file structure on the CDs yet to figure out if they can be edited, but SMITTYVEGAS' post makes me think I oughta burn some copies "just in case" anyway.

I've copied my CD's but I am also interested in finding out if I have the latest software. Last week it took me three blocks out of my way stating I had arrived at my destination. I wasn't even on the right street. Other times it has been right on the money. What do you think of yours?

As far as checking whether you have the most current version of downloadable software, try this link... http://www.harley-davidson.com/cp/moar/en/software.asp

Many other GPS systems use a fairly standard format for map information, this is what I hope to determine when I get a chance later today to look at the disks... if so then perhaps some of the map information that is available via Internet web sites will be useable. (I have my doubts, afterall this is HD we're talking about).

As for accuracy, yeah my system has not been dead on when I've used it, and yeah it tried to take me three blocks out of my way to get to a road I could see from my driveway, but generally speaking it has gotten me close (except for a trip to Phoenix where it put me on the wrong end of a road - 1/2 mile or so). If your system is really out to lunch, try the calibration procedure before throwing in the towel.

Hello fellow Alaskan!!!
I have an 07flhtcuse2 and noticed by your profile that you have an 06, by any chance have you a disk for navigationin alaska???
I hate the idea that the only good my navigation part of the hk system in Alaska is to use it as a compass!!!!!

No.

We have so few roads and I know them all by name so I did not order the GPS option. I have never felt the need for a GPS in a vehicle driven on the highway.

Aircraft or boats would be a different matter.

After spending 40K on this bike in El Paso and driving around down their getting use to all the goodies( navigation XM radio) and then deciding to ship it to alaska, I was a bit surprised to find out the nav cds didn't cover alaska and no xm radio up here.
