GPS NIM Question
Does anyone know...if I plug a cable into the audio out of the GPS, and then into the Aux port on the radio, will that bypass the NIM, or is the NIM still active?
It's been 3 years since I installed my NIM/660.... but.... If I remember correctly, the "Y" cable connects the 660 audio-out, through the NIM, to the Aux port on the radio. It allows for the music from the 660 to mute when directions are given.
I didn't use use or install the "Y" cable because I also had an iPod interface for my music.
I don't know what will happen if you just go from the 660-out to the radio aux-in. If you still have parts from the install, look for the "Y"cable....
Not sure if that helps or just confuses the issue...

Here is my issue, I've found that using the GPS while listening to music, and talking on the intercom and CB with the NIM, sometimes the NIM seems to get "confused". Sometimes everything works fine, but sometimes there are issues with volume getting real quiet, or the GPS directions not being heard, or the NIM not switching back to music after a GPS direction.
I'll be leading a few large rides soon, and I need the GPS to be working properly.
So, I'm thinking of just unhooking the NIM and going straight from the GPS to the AUX on the radio. I know I won't be able to listen to music ( I keep music on my phone), but I need the GPS directions and being able to communicate with my sweep, more than I need the music.
I was just wondering before I remove the outer fairing, was hoping that by running the cable, that would bypass the NIM.
I've tried just hooking up the cable, I get the GPS directions thru the headset, but I'm not sure if they're coming thru the cable or the NIM.
Guess I'm just gonna have to unhook the NIM to be sure.
This was one reply:
"If you have the fairing mount, with the double row of spring loaded pins. Clean the pins with alcohol, and push each one in and out with a small screwdriver. I know this, because the same thing happened to mine recently. This action fixed it."
A couple of other people mentioned that this fixed their NIM issues... might be worth a try....
Good luck...

Thanks, I saw that other post you referred to, but I don't think that's my problem. Just seems like when I've got a bunch of communications going at the same time, the NIM gets "confused".
My Zumo is hooked up to the Aux input and I don't have any problems with it. I would disconnect the NIM and run the GPS to the Aux in.
I've got a 665, so the Zumo acts like a NIM when I listen to XM radio.

Thanks, think that's what I'm gonna do.
