Default Help with engine Diagnosis!!!!!

I was coming back to Va from Kansas City and just outside of St. Louis cruising at 75 the the bike started lunging and sputtering like it was running out of gas. Barely noticeable at first and I assumed bad gas from the last fill up. I continue the trip with no major issues and refill in Illinois and again outside of Lexington, Ky. I'm back on the road again for no more than 20 miles and the bike starts acting up again and very quickly gets to the point that I need to stop. Man 'O War harley takes a look at it and replaces a "bad" temp sensor and sends me on my way. Not so fast, another 100 miles down the road and I'm sitting in Charlie's Harley in Huntington, WV with the exact same problem. They look at it and replace both plugs and the front spark plug wire and send me back on my way. AGAIN!!!! 100 miles down the road and I'm stopped again. This time I trailer it the rest of the way home and drop it at my local dealer. The local shop has had it for 2 weeks now and have changed the ECM and it still hasn't fixed the problem.

The bike has 13,000 miles on it and has been set up the same way since mile 1, bone stock with V&H twin slash slip ons. No tuner, no air cleaner, and no problems for 13,000 miles. Latest I heard from the dealer is they are running it with stock exhaust and not having any problems. Their theory is the slip ons threw off the A/F mix and the bike can't compensate anymore (after 13,000 miles with no problems).

Does this sound right to any of you? cause it doesn't to me.

What do you guys think the problems is? Has anyone experienced this?

A 2014 should have thrown a code that can be read by you on the speedo lower digital screen. A tech certainly should have been able to read any codes with his tech tool. They should also be able to read the A/F ration while the bike is running with the tech tool to identify any exhaust issues. So no reason for the parts throwing hoping something fixes it. Man-O-War does have some top level techs and it's possible there is/was more than one problem. One problem you always hear the tech guys talk around especially on intermittent problems is a bad ground. Hope they figure it out.

They did pull codes off the bike

P0374 crank sensor no pulse and another one, can't remember the number but it was lost communication with ECM. The last code is what led them to replace the ECM. Sorry I didn't include that.

I would also like to mention, Mar 'O War and Charlie's Harley Davidson really did a great job of taking care of me while I was in their shops. Both of them got me in and out as fast as possible. Both shops took notice of the fact I was on the road and did everything they could to get me back on the road and take care of me while I was waiting to include Man 'O War getting me a hotel room when I needed to spend the night.

The "theory" about the slip-ons cracks me up... total bs...

Just a WAG it could be a (CanBus) wiring issue? or a fuel (pressure) issue?

Ride the bike with the stock slip-ons for awhile and bring it back when it does it again, make sure that you have all the documentation when it comes time to get the MoCo involved and / or you're out of warranty

Do you have it written down somewhere? I've recently had P0118 which is the ET high Voltage code and the dealer replaced the ECM but not the sensor. I'm also getting U1016 (lost serial data communication to ECM) and U1040 (lost ABS serial data to ECM). Just curious if any of these ring a bell for you since they don't seem to be related.

That said, I remember a few weeks ago that one of my spotlights went out and when I tapped it, it came back on. I'm wondering if a loose ground in the spotlight housing could be causing my problems. Hope you get your figured out.

Anyone ever replace the crank sensor? I'm new to this but I've read they can be a problem. As well the crank sensor is magnetic and can pick up stray ferrous. That will cause a problem.

Stupid to ask as you have had it to dealers, but have they checked both ends of the ground? I have seed ground cables come loose , and get caught in the belt, and grinding it to almost nothing causing all kinds of headaches.

What about the possibility of a bad ignition system. Seen this happen on a sporty a guy was ridin. Ran fine stopped to get gas an the trouble started. They rigged it up said the connections were bad. The bike ran fine until the next gas stop and after that it was back to missin and carryin on until it just quite. Turned out hos ignition was bad. I know they are 2 completely different motors and ignition set ups but may be somethin to look at. As its building heat its messing up the ignition system.
