I would like to get some opinions from you folks regarding helmets. As some of you may have read I just purchased a new SG and I am in need of a new helmet. I am thinking a beanie style or open face.
have an old beat-up 3/4th covered with stickers. dont use it but was thinkin about the G-Max ,around $90 made by bell, 3/4 with an internal style retractable sheild (for touring)
As much as I'd like to go with the "cool" factor that some of the little beanies offer, I am just not down with that minimal protection (though I do ride without on a rare occasion).
I wear my same 'ol Arai Signet GT full face for highway and cold weather and I wear the Shoei ST-Cruz Half Helmet (still DOT and SNELL approved...FWIW) when I want the open face...it's the best I could find that still looked reasonably good...and SUPERB quality! http://www.shoei-helmets.com/road/helmets_road.aspx?h=8
If you go to the 3/4, get something that fits your head shape. Worst thing i have encountered is a helmet that's round. My head shape is oval. Arai makes oval shaped helmets. Most manufacturers make round. Try it on in the store, wear it for at least 5 min. Then decide if it's comfort and if it fits right. Even a helmet that is too small will feel okay for a couple of minutes. Take your time and get one that fits and is the same as your head shape.
I appreciate the replys. I am wearing a full face racing helmet right now and although it is probably safer than a half or beanie it just isn't that comfortable.
I go with a full face.
Came within 15 seconds of witnessing a cruiser slam into the side of an small SUV driven by a bimbo young blond that pulled out in front of them in Leesburg on Friday night. Both rider and passenger, husband and wife from W. Palm Beach were wearing full gear and helmets, they both survived but are banged up pretty good.
You never know and it is best to be protected so that we can all ride again.
I have a standard HD 1/2 helmet and a Arai Quantum full. 90% wear the half. Get what fits you best! The more comfortable the better. Maybe get both half and full, you can therefore chose depending on the weather and mood. I can hear my tunes better with the half....
I got a Seer half helmet for warmer weather / cruising, they also paint to match your bike color if you so desire. I also have amodular full face from Zeushelmets, great helmet for $89.The Seer was $280.
