We Harley riders are literally sitting only a couple of inches from the cylinder heads. We feel every beat of the pulsing mass of machine parts. There is something primal about that, something we struggle to feel in this high tech age.

Might be the best explanation of the Harley=Soul "equation" that I've ever heard.
If i had the money and room, i would definitely love me a F6b or Goldwing variation. I definitely appreciate them for what they are. But nothing can replace a Harley for me. I considered a Victory before i bought my Street Glide.. And honestly, the Victory does a lot of important stuff better then the Street Glide.. but in the end, just wasn't right for me. Do Harley's really have soul? or is it just ignorance.. lol who knows
I've wanted to ride one of those F6Bs, but I don't have any desire to have one in my garage. Cool bikes, and undoubtedly technologically advanced, but I love the simplicity of the Harley engine.
The F6B is the reason I bought an FJR. The F6B was the first sport style bike I ever rode and boy was it fun. But only for an hour. After the hour of soulless speed and handling, I was ready to get back on my Harley.
To satisfy my sport craving, I bought an FJR because they almost duplicate the F6B fun, they are much cheaper than the F6B because there are so many used ones, and they are much better designed for touring or all day riding.
But as everyone says, these sport style bikes only satisfy a few cravings. Harley Vtwins fill the soul because it touches most of our senses.
My 1999 evo even has something that the Twincam struggles to give. I don't know what it is exactly, but I get a warm satisfaction when I turn on the pet ****, pull the choke and let her warm up for a few minutes before shifting her in 1st gear. I had an hour of nothing to do last night, so I jumped on the evo instead of my 2011 RKC. It seems when I ride the Evo, I have nowhere particular to go, and maybe that is the best part. I dont know, but it takes a while to get off the high of riding that bike.

There is something primal about that, something we struggle to feel in this high tech age. Even as a pilot, I can never resist looking up to see what is being thrusted through the air by the pulsing radial engine. Yah, it pulls the soul.

Very, very well said. It's exactly how I feel as well.
