Thanks guys for all your help. I took the air cleaner apart and everything was there including the foam spacer. What I found was the mechanic had not replaced all of the air box spacers in the same direction. When I fixed this, the air filter was then very tight when I screwed in the five bolts. Since the spacers were not all aligned in the same direction (there is a inside and an outside end to these bolts) the screws were not evenly screwing down against the back plate. When I got them all aligned the same way, it allowed the cover to be tightened down correctly. Amazing you pay for service then have to work on your bike as soon as you get it home. Anyway, you guys were fantastic to help and now I know the air filter should be snug and tight. Thanks again.
Thanks Vernal and I will definitely do that. The bike was in for a battery change, new starter install, 25,000 mile service, and since there was oil dripping from the breather I thought,"what the heck they can surely clean that for me". What was more concerning, when I called to ask the service manager if the filter should turn he said he was not familiar with those type of air cleaners and didn't know if it should turn or not and in one post on here I got my answer. Great website.
