Default Anyone using a Harley hand held CB mike?

Someone mentioned a Harley hand held CB mike, anyone using one ? So it looks to me like going that route you eliminate the cord being hooked to your helmet. So doing it this way you just listen to music and CB transmissions through the external speakers ? I don't know how good or bad it would be having to grab the mike with your left hand compared to pushing the PTT button. Anyone having experienced this I would appreciate your comments. Looks like the price of the hand held mike is $100.00.

I've used one for years and like it. I don't have it hooked up all the time, only when riding with friends so we can talk. I have it mounted to my throttle side. I wear a half helmet and don't want a helmet setup. Since I only use it every now and then it works great.

Yes, the voice transmissions come thru the stereo speakers. The radio cuts off when you or someone else talks. My speaker rocker control is pushed towards the back of the bike. The only issue that comes up is the volume when you are close to each other - can get the squeal if you don't turn it down.

If you are using one with the 2014 Rushmore and newer models the mike will not work. The way they are set up now you would have to key the mike and hold in the PTT button making dangerous and next to impossible to do. I have a 2014 and installed a mike but had to remove it.

I was the one who mentioned the handheld mic. I mentioned it because you thought your PTT switch was bad. I wanted to offer a different way to check you CB. As far as using the handheld mic, I used it only on road trips and very rarely at that but without any problems. I did not like the helmet mounted headset attach to my half helmet. As far as using the handhelf mic on 14/15 models; it is just like Rotcart said - you have to key the mic AND still use the PTT switch for the CB. You can however use the mic for voice commands with the NAV. If you have a phone linked to the bike via Bluetooth you can also use voice commands to make calls and you can answer incoming calls. I still have the mic mounted on my 14 FLHTK but it doesn't get much use as I rarely use the GPS or the phone. Hope this helps.

I guess I should have mentioned I have a 2010 Ultra Classic. It sounds like the hand held mic will work if I want to try it. I'm going to go a head and let the dealer replace my PTT switch so it will work like it is suppose to. At age 60 I'm old school so I don't use GPS or Bluetooth, just the basics. That's why I thought I might like the hand held mic, just like back in the 70's.

I have a 2010 Limited and my son has a 2006 Ultra. When we are on road trips we both use the hand held mics. They work great and we can hear each other clearly over the speakers.

On 14 and newer there is no PTT circuit in the 7 pin connector. So you would have to still use the PTT on the right side controls

The PTT can be wired to the 7pin connector - it's a DIY mod but has been done. Compare a 13 wire diagram to a 14 and it's one wire missing.

When I use the hand held mike I leave it in its docking station on handlebar and just lean forward to talk. That way if I suddenly need to use both hand - I don't have to drop the mike
