Just to let everyone know,my nephew has a 2013 Ultra Classic CVO--110 cu engine that recently failed at 11,000 miles due to cam bearings comming apart and destroying engine.Stil under warentee and HD didn't want to cover it because he had slip-on pipes installed. After much bickering back and forth with attorny involved they finally caved in and replaced the motor.I thought HD had upgraded the cam bearings by now, guess not.My friend also had a '07 110cu CVO fail at 13,000 miles, out of warenty, oil pump came apart on day ride.Destroyed crank, cams and lifters. Both rides were maintained well. Just wanted to pass this along. Skip
Dealer was feeding you a line of crap, if a dealer pushes they get things covered, and even an inspector doesn't care if there are slip-ons on the bike.
HD wouldn't put them on at the dealer if they voided the warranty, and there is no way HD can say Exhaust caused a lubrication failure,, I had a 2,000 88 cid that the cam bearing failed on, they had extended the warranty out to 5y 75k miles for the 99-2000s. Mine had 45k on it, and was 7 yr old. I tried to get even a little help on this for the repair, they said no. Supposedly the newer cam bearings are better. they went from small needle bearings to roller bearings, (larger barrel type)
Just suffered an oil pump failure on my 2012 CVO at 34k miles. Destroyed the cams and lifters. Extended warranty covered the repairs of nearly $1400. Mods never an issue (HD SE Tuner, head pipes).
Got a 2003 Heritage Classic TC, Luckily I bought the extended warranty when I bought the bike used Because I had heard about all the TC problems, about 1000 miles after I bought the bike, started getting "Noisy", I took the bike to the dealer I bought it from, initially they wanted me to upgrade to "SE" components ( would have cost me around $500, not covered under the warranty ) So, I said no, I want the replacement thats covered under warranty, Luckily the service guy was an OK guy, he said well....we'll just put in the '07 and later TC components Oil Pump,Bearing Plate ,Tensioners etc. which I had heard were an improved version ?? Anyone had any experience with this??
I have heard very little complaints from folks who own an '07 or later TC about TC parts failures? I have ridden the bike quite a bit since the upgrade with no noise or problems yet.
Regards
Ed
