I slapped a Vance & Hines 2-1 pro pipe on my stock 96 cu flhtc. It performs much better than my previous Rinehart Xtremes and looks better as well. However, I'm looking for more sound.
I know it's not gonna sound like the staggered short shots on my dads heritage but what have you all done? I've seen some baffle mods and know VH offers a competition baffle. Not concerned about making extreme power but don't want to lose much either. Some day I'll have bigger cams and aftermarket air cleaner. For now, it's stock.
I also have the V&H Propipe with standard baffle and FP3 FuelPak, I've done some research on the comp baffle. You can get the comp baffle for $85 but the only gain you will get is louder on stock motor. Hope this helps....
The baffle will be a good upgrade for the sound and at only at $85 not to bad either. I'd go for it if it were me but remember with a tuner installed u can gain more power as well. The FP3 might be something to look at.
I have the Pro Pipe HO with tuner and A/C. Called Vance &Hines with the same question, they told me that removing or altering the baffle would decrease performance. That's been about 4 years ago, with time, it seems to have gotten louder or maybe thats in my head.
I've probably got 1500 or so miles on it now. After drilling some holes in the plug and removing the wire wrapping, I finally just cut the plug on the end off and wrapped the wire back around. Sounds pretty good now.
I don't think it's as nice as D&D but at half the price, it'll do. I also slapped on a PCV and screamin' eagle heavy breather.
I've had my Pro Pipe on for 7 years and about 40k miles...It HAS gotten a good bit louder with age. Plus, it has a hole drilled inside the baffle from when I had the bike dyno tuned. Thing that pisses me off is V&H no longer makes ANY replacement parts for it....Not sure when the newer model came out, but bought mine in 2008, and it is now obsolete. Other than that , it has been a great pipe.
