Thanks for clearing that up George. I've got one that I carry rarely. Only if I'm really out in the boonies. It'll hold about 10 miles of gas.

What is the size of the 33 oz bottle (diameter x height)?

First a big tnks to texasredneck for putting me on these, I purchased two of the 33 oz. bottles for the long western trips. (They hold 30 oz. each, ya have to leave some space for expansion). They are 10" long and a little over 3" in diameter, yes, two will fit side by side in your side hard bag, as Redneck suggested put them in old sock bags to keep them from rattleing. The cost was $14.95 each. Yes, per my conversation with MSR prior to purchasing they are designed for use with gasloline. The tops have "o" rings to insure a tight seal. ERI and other camping supply stores carrying them. Again a big hello to Texasredneck.

Be absolutely certain you leave room for the fuel to expand. If you do not, the bottle gasket could leak or worse.

They come marked with a "fill line" by the manufacturer.

Been thinking about getting a couple to carry - gas stations can be hard to come by in rural Ontario - but was wondering if anyone refills them at a gas pump, or if the only option is to fill from a gas can, meaning I'd only get one use on a long trip.

I can imagine an ugly mess at the pumps......

I usually fill mine at the pump - ya gotta be careful and watch what yer doin', but it's doable. If ah git messy, ah wipe 'em down with paper towels....
