Fm reception
Anyone find a fix for the poor Fm reception yet? I dont want to spend $400 on xm radio.
I cant pick up any station 15 miles outside of town in any direction and even when entering another town still cant get it to pick up a station unless I know which station it is and will it also drop 15 miles out of town.
I wish xm sold a unit for the boom without paying Harleys prices.
Thanks
Wojo

on my 2009 I get pretty good reception on the FM both with stock antenna on tourpak and a $15 pepboys rubber stubby on the lower mount.
hills make a difference the wide open plain is easier- I know you may experience hills but not mountains.
check that the antenna cable connections are clean and tight at each end.
antennas work best vertical, in in the fairing and zip tied to the frame won't work as well.

xm: if you wanted to piece together a system it can be done for under $100
I adapted a car kit for my bike in 2002 and still use it sometimes, although the programming and audio quality have gone to crap

I mounted the antenna on the top of the tourpak- it worked great. ( just like on my car/truck the antenna is on the roof)
what riders and HD refuse to accept is that antennas work better under certain conditions...inside the fairing is not one of them.

Kinda OT.
Especially during monsoon season, terrestrial radio reception can be very important*
I use both our local radio weather reports and the WB services while riding.
Mike
* Ongoing concerns that many radio markets now get their content streamed from remote servers ( and broadcast over the air) and that there is no local content which could warn of weather events, forest fires, derailed oil trains etc
Loosening of FCC regs allows for less local content or operations.

You can use the app for tune in radio app to stream almost every radio station live around the world. Tune In also supports wb stations. We both have the same problem and this is what I found that works for me and it is free.

It's only free if you have an unlimited data plan. Otherwise it can get pricey. And when riding in a non cell covered area, you get bupkus.
Get the iPod interface module, then you can listen to whatever you want when you want, you can find one here, the cheapest price I've seen for them. http://www.boardtrackerharleyonline....rface-76476-10
