Default Decided to try Super Shox

I've been going back and forth between Ohlins and trying the SuperShox.

The Super Shox have been getting pretty good write-ups and they are cheaper than the comparable Ohlins (probably even w/Howard's discount, but no where could I find what it actually is).

I called to order them last week, to install them before a trip I am taking this Thurs. I spoke with Brian Blasey, and he was quite helpful. They would not be able to ship, because they were temporarily out of the Harley shocks. They couldn't ship until last Thursday, because they were expecting to have a new lot that morning.

I explained I wanted to try them on the trip, and Brian split 3-day shipping with me, to ensure that I would get them, with time to install them. He was more than helpful.

I got them today, and they are a good looking, well-made shock. Took all of 20 minutes to change them out and then I went for a test ride.

I should have measured before and after... I meant to, but was anxious to go for a ride. These shocks did change the seat height. It's noticeable, but I'm not sure how much it actually changed.

I estimated the pre-load setting, based off their chart. (I added a little, I'm at #3). Then I went for a ride.

Around here the roads are pretty good... but I went searching for bumps. Not a great test, but this was just a quick ride. These shocks are much better than the air shocks... granted, not a high bar to pass... but that's all I have for now..

Oh yeah, for the first time, I was more aware of how bad the front suspension is .... that says something....

I'll add some more observations after the trip.

Was seat height raised or lowered?

Great! Brian, Super Shox, are very responsive, seem like good people to deal with. They look sweet, and being an oil/gas separated rebuildable shock is a bonus. I was close to buying those. At 6'2" I decided to go for a taller 13.5" shock and gain some travel. Let us know what you think after you dial in the preload and get some miles.

I put them on my bike and there is a huge difference between them and the stock shocks. Could not believe the change in the ride and how it handles.

Put the Super Shox on my Road King. No more spine jarring bumps. I ride solo and the #1 setting seems perfect for me.

Good news, that will probably be the way I go before long.
Keep us informed as you tweak 'em along.

While I went with the Ohlins, you are exactly right about them proving how bad the front forks are, and what garbage the old air shocks are.

Probably a lot of it is setting the sag I'm thinking, even with the Super's?
I have a pair of Progressive 940's and have them on for the past several years and they were not set correctly.
When Progressive was in my neck of the woods I had them set the sag for me and the difference was truly noticeable.
Nice to hear of some positive reviews of the Super's.

I bought a pair of 13" Super Shox about a month ago for my 13 Road Glide Ultra with a police seat and ride solo.

What I like with these shocks is the index number - makes it easy to know where you start from to make +/- adjustments. Several years ago I bought a pair of Ohlins and could never get them adjusted. After that I stayed away from getting shocks until now.

The Super Shocks are very nice. I weigh 170# suited up with helmet. With the shock set at 1 the ride was good but still was still a tad bumpy on an excellent road section of washboard ripples. After talking to Brian I adjusted the setting to 0 and the ride over the same washboard section is excellent reducing the washboard effect significantly to the point where you say "not bad - not bad at all" and go to find other punishing road sections.

I have been riding the RGU around for a couple of weeks with no bags in case of an urge to tweak but haven't needed to. This makes for an even uglier Road Glide.

So far the shocks are excellent - Brian is absolutely stellar - Brian also indicated they are working on a front end solution which would be great.
