Default Garage Ideas

Hey guys...I'm starting to plan out how I'm going to finish my garage this fall. Was hoping anyone that's been through this could share some advice on things to include, not include, etc. It's a big-@$$ garage...4 1/2+ stalls, so plenty of room, but I don't need to go overboard (that's my wife's words). Love to hear your thoughts.

thanks guys-
Steve

(PS - this is a garage used to store my FLHX touring motorcycle....hoping to not get thread moved )

I personally like the ideal of a lift that is recessed into the floor.

Does it already have heat and electric?

How about some "before" pics so we can see what you are working with?

I am planning mine also going to retire in 21 Months 6 days 5 hrs 14 minutes.
If you do not have a lift table now is the time to do so that way you can sink it in the concrete so it will flush with the floor. The only other thing I have planned is to have one Bay with the ceiling tall enough for a lift for the cages.
Good luck and enjoy the new garage and always remember garages always should have been larger and there are never enough Electrical sockets and overhead lights.

It has a gas line ran in the ceiling already for some heat which will be part of this. Electrical is also already ran, but I'll need to add more lights, outlets and ceiling fan wires.

I'll get some pics tonight and post them.

Nothing as grandiose as you guys are talking but I completed my new double car garage late last year. Festooned the thing with outlets and lights and its just enough, (except for floor space of course).

On the back wall put an outlet on every other stud and have at least 3 on each of the remaining 3 walls. Add more where you plan to have your work bench. You want 2 overhead lights in each bay minimum and extra(s) over your workbench area.

Seriously !

Oh,, I don't know about your climate though I'm obviously well north of you. If your garage is unheated and you have big seasonal temperature swings, don't finish the inside in drywall. It will fall off. Use something that won't absorb moisture, then swell, then contract again as it dries with the seasons. Flake-board painted a light color will work ok and is about the same $ as drywall.

lots of lights - look into 8 foot fluorescents - they used to be cheaper and last longer than 4-footers.
a sink to wash your hands and rinse small parts
a refrig for beer or water
220v for a welder
big enough air compressor
stereo
parts washer
pinup or bike posters, lol
