ok guys here is the deal..i have a super glide at present,,,but i have never had a touring model...i am think in january i want to buy a good rieding 2 up touring bike...with all them out thier ,,road king heritage..strret glide m,road glid & etc...what are the disadvantages & advantages of each,,,i know the specs,,but specs can not tell the dislikes & likes...appreciate the help..in trying to decide what to buy..
Well I've always thought that if you really want to know what the bike is like you have to go ride that one.
Road King is pretty good for the short haul's unless its dressed up like what I've done, but that will not come cheap.
If you want more long haul's go with EG, RG or Ultra or even an Ultra Classic. They are the touring class. And it all depends on what you want to spend.
I'd recommend forgetting what it costs, get the top of the line and option it out if your buying new. I'm not saying this to be a SA, you will find out what ever you get, you want to put more onto it.
It will be a LOT less expensive to get your new Ultra Classic right of the bat and forget about doing what I did to a Road King. I could have bought two bikes by now with what I spent so far!
So doingit this way will save you money. Now go to thedealer and sit on a bunch, rent a couple for a weekend and then start deciding, its not that hard.
i do plan on renting some when i go on some trips..the closet dealer that rents them to me is about 140 miles...so i plan on some weekend trips..i appricate the advice about haveing it set up from the begining..
Any of the Glides (except SG with a 4" windscreen) give better wind protection than a RK. The EGs and RGs are better than a SG for long two-up trips due to suspension, seat, better backrest (tour pak).
I agree---I purchased an 07 SG---I have put everything on it that comes with an Ultra---if I would have gotten the Ultra and put a rear SG fender on it---I would probably have 1 - 2k extra in my pocket. It is damn fun making it like you want it.
If you are going touring and don't need a CB I think the best deals are the RG or EGC.

EG or the RG are the way to go for serious touring. The RK and SG are great bikes. You gotta make a decision on what you want. I put some serious miles on my Sportster when that was all I could afford.

That's the ticket. I rented three HD's and finally settled on An Electra Glide Classic. A year later I could not be happier.
