Darryl, i like the look of a touring bike with the biger tires. So i elected to have my stock SG wheels chromed. i thought to my self Gee if i wanted a wide glide or a night train i would have got one. i don't like those bikes because of the skinny front tire. don't get me wrong i have been swayed some as i do like the custom wheel look that this group has going on. it just wasn't for me.
i don't have a photo to send today but next week. i have had my SG for a month now and the dealer sent a set of SG wheels in to get chromed and they are finally back so it is at the dealer for the last week getting a list done including the wheels. i will post again with a photo.
yes post when you get a chance I would really like to see them
I made a 21" for the front and the 18" in the rear. See my sig for the look of the 21.
The 21" is a bit larger, but you could also lower the front by getting shorter springs for your forks. I am going to do that soon. I have a 30" inseam and would have to guess the bike is about 1/2 higher.
Don't worry about the availability of 18 and 21" tires. They are everywhereEXCEPT the HD dealers. Most all of your independant shops have/get them. I bought mine on ebay.
the 21 is NOT a skinny one like a softail, it is a 120/70/21 (3.5 inches wide)
Go w/ a 21/18 setup, you'll be happy you did!!!!!!
What does chroming the stock wheels run? I actually like the look of mine on my rk custom. Just curious. In any event, what ever I decide to do with the wheels, I am going to go with that 360 brake set up like fishafly has. Looks awsome.

Doesn't the RK custom already have the chromed version of the Streetglide wheel?
I chromed my stock Street Glide rims. Like a poster above, I too don't like the look of skinny tires on a bagger, so I kept the stockers. Other advantages of staying with stock size tires is handling doesn't change and the tires are readily available. These were important considerations to me because I do a lot of long distance touring. Here are pics of my chromed stock rims.

Doesn't the RK custom already have the chromed version of the Streetglide wheel?
I owned a Road King Custom before I bought my Street Glide. The design of the rims is identical, but only the outer circumference of the rim is smooth chrome on the Road King Custom. The rest of the rim is sintered (rough finish). The custom rim is still beautiful, much nicer than the stock FLHX rim. However, IMHO a fully chromed FLHX rim looks much nicer than the stock rim from the RK custom. I originally was looking into simply buying a set of custom rimson eBay, but decided against it. Instead I bought another set of FLHX rims on eBay and I chromed them. My neighbor has a Road King Custom, and he drools over my rims everytime he sees them. Nonetheless, his rims are still beautiful. It all depends on what you like.
One thing to remember is that even though the Road King Custom and the Street Glide have the same rim design, it costs a lot more to chrome the rims from the custom. This is because the custom rims have the rough sintered finish, whereas the FLHX rims are smooth. It would take a lot of work for the chromer to smooth down the sintered part of the custom rims before chroming. It cost me $300 per rim to chrome my FLHX rims. Personally, I'm really happy with the way that they look on the bike.
UGGA, I like the way the chrome look is also on the stock wheel. I will have to check on having my done.
Papa Travis,
I like the way my rims look too, but in your case, since you already have a custom, I'm not sure that I would want to go to the time and expense of chroming your rims. My neighbor with a Road King Custom is in the same boat as you. He loves my chromed stock rims, but not enough to chrome his. IMHO the stock Road King Custom rims are the most beautiful Harley has ever put on a bike. The sintered and chrome styling looks awesome. Personally, I don't think that I'd spend the moneyto go full chrome. Obviously the choice is yours though - it all boils down to money and personal preference.
I will say this though. Cleaning my chromed FLHX rims is much easier than cleaning the rims on my Road King Custom used to be. That rough sintered finish can be hard to clean and really chews up sponges.
