wanting new rims, thinking I should maybe stay with 16 inch or go to 18s, dont want 21 because I am short and want to be able to touch the ground. Also told 18 inch rubber is hard to find, 16 is the most popular in rubber, is this true? Any of you guys go with 18 inch chrome or 16 chrome wheels?
A friend of mine bought a set of PM's to go on his Ultra and went with an 18 on the front and a 16 on the rear. He thought my 21 was too big but wanted more wheel on the front than the 16. On the rear, he stuck with the 16 so he could get a tire on the road as he travels alot and the rear is much more likely to pick up a nail. I'm selling my chrome slotted 16 off the rear of mine if you decide to go with a 16 on the rear.
18's on front and rear for me. The 21" looks good on select bikes but I didn't like the look on mine. Here is a shot of my front:[sm=devilgrin.gif] Chrome lowers next.
Get at least 18's...if you're spending that much money, you want them to be seen.....21's are pushing it. SOme say handling changes at 21, some say it doesn't.
I just put 18's on my front and back (the back is sorta a waste of money because you can't really see it (Street glide), but what the heck
Outside diameter on a 16,18 or 21" is so close to the same you would not be able to tell the difference...
I gotta agree... Had 18/18 on my last bike and went 21/18 on myKing... Can't tell the difference...I'd say go with whatever suits your eye best and not worry about the diameter...
I don't think 18" rubber is hard to find, it's just not something most HD dealers carry in stock. Any dealer can order it for you (or you can order it yourself) when it's time for a replacement.
What brand and model of wheels are those that you have, and how much $$$ did they set you back. They sure look sweet with that black fender. I've already started making up my birthday and Christmas list for the wife,..... LOL

RE: want new rims
Darryl, i like the look of a touring bike with the biger tires. So i elected to have my stock SG wheels chromed. i thought to my self Gee if i wanted a wide glide or a night train i would have got one. i don't like those bikes because of the skinny front tire. don't get me wrong i have been swayed some as i do like the custom wheel look that this group has going on. it just wasn't for me.
i don't have a photo to send today but next week. i have had my SG for a month now and the dealer sent a set of SG wheels in to get chromed and they are finally back so it is at the dealer for the last week getting a list done including the wheels. i will post again with a photo.
