I informed them that the bike had sat around for a couple of years,and that the battery was dead. I told them to change all fluids including the fuel, and put new tires on it. After about 3 weeks they called and said that the head bolts had stretched and oil and exhaust was coming out between the jugs and case.
I inspected the head bolts and they seem fine. I suspect it detonated when trying to start it. They said they never got it running but it was leaking badly.

Why would the dealer be responsible? Leaving a bike sit for a couple years without doing anything to do it would strike me as negligence on your part. It probably did detonate when they started it.. but again, why would they be responsible for an out of warranty bike with tons of mods that sat for years especially when you only told them to change fluids and tires.. you didn't tell them to tear the engine apart and make sure its sound mechanically.

Yeah....I can't see any dealer fault in this. For all they know it was leaking when it was parked. Unless you told them specifically NOT to get it started, I believe you're gonna be SOL. It sucks, but it is what it is.
If the poor mechanic just put in a battery and hit the start button? How do you get a free engine out of that. If somebody got on for their joy ride, that's a different story, but how are you going to know?
I know it really sucks, the bike sat because got to busy moved a couple of times, but now Im ready to start getting back in the saddle and then this happens. They told me 10 grand to put a 120r in. cant see dropping that kind of money on a 6 year old bike. They offered me 10500 for a trade on a new road glide cvo. Just wasn't counting on buying a new bike when I just bought a new house.

Then don't trade it. Take it home and fix it. Or take it somewhere else and let them fix it. I would prefer someone other than a dealer but that's me. 10,500 trade on a CVO will still leave you paying around 30 grand boot. Too rich for my blood. Your's would cost what.... a few grand to fix.
**** that's a no brainer to me.
