On my 07 UC that has SYN oil & Stage I, I removed the lower fairing to check if it would lower the thigh burning heat. The additional air is a big plus and most certainly lowered it. I also received a suprising benefit (NOW I KNOW that many UC riders will take issue with this) the bike now glides through the ride with no swaying and is aerodynamically stable.
With lower fairing on, MY bike swayed in the 70+ range, with the farings removed on the same highway it is stable.
Interesting. I didn't notice the aerodynamic sway with my lowers on my 07 Ultra. What I did notice was the wind buffeting coming off those lowers.
I took the lowers off, and the buffeting was reduced greatly. Still had a little, but not as much.
So, while I was at the dealer having a new rear tire put on I had lower wind deflectors put on. Put them on my Softail and they worked great.
Strated riding home, and all of a sudden I get an aerodynamic swaying. WTF???
This is not good!! Doesn't do this on my Softail!! Buffeting is gone, even with a headwind, but this strange swaying.
I think the dealer put the wind deflectors on wrong.
When I got home I checked my Softail and sure enough, they are opposite of how they are on my Ultra.
Now the big question, do I just fix it myself? Or take it back and let the dealer do it right?

I'm inclined to make the dealer do it, they need to be in the habbit of doing things right! But I still can't wait to do things myself and end up fogetting the dealer! I just don't like to go out of my way and take things back any place. Its such a waste of time for the most part.
Aw, what the heck change them over yourself. You'll know its done right this time.

I'd say do it yourself if you can. There is an element of risk every time the dealer touches your bike. You would kick yourself if you took it back and something went wrong for such a small fix. The aggravation would just not be worth it.
The only time I notice any unstability in my ride is when pushing 100+ and having to corner.....you can really get a wobbly feeling.
& that can be easily cured by switching to good quality rear shocks(Harley shocks suck).
Here is how my bike is setup & mine handles perfectly at any speed, the only thing that doesn't show in this pic is the fork air baffle on the lower triple clamp.
