I've was told years ago to do an oil change also, it was explained to me that old oil can be acidic and potentially cause issues over the long run, so I always do this to mine before hanging it up for the winter.
FWIW
Your oil includes an additives package containing a "TBN" Total Base Number, component which offsets acid formed when oil and water (typically from condensation), and heat combine in a process called hydrolysis. The TBN gradually depletes between oil changes so its best to store starting with relatively new oil. Also, avoid intermittently starting your bike during storage. This enhances condensation and provides heat necessary to the hydrolysis process. When you start her up in the spring, its best to only do so when you can immediately go for a run, getting your engine up to full operating temp for a half hour or so. This will vaporize the condensate which formed during the winter, eliminating it from your engine.

This. I don't touch the Start button all winter. In spring, first thing I do is siphon about 4 gallons out of the tank into the container for my lawn mower - which will probably run on **** and vinegar - then check tire's and few other things, start it and take a 30 minute ride to gas station and fill with fresh gas.
