I just rode 200 miles today and as I pulled into my neighborhood my bike started to lunge and bank and pop and then shut down. Tried restaring but just backfired and quit. After setting for a few minutes it would start run about 3 seconds and shut down. Now where do I start? I called the local HD dealer here in Charlotte which is just 4 miles from my home to have it taken in and since I am a HOG member I would think it would be picked up for free since the HOG comes with towing. No, the dealer says that is going to be $95 since they "pick it up with a trailor not tow it" So screw them I will try myself. Any tips on telling if it is the injection system, fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator? I may need to take it in but now I want to first see if it is something I can address myself. Any tips or ideas are appreciated.
If you are a HOG member call them and have them tow it to the dealer, no charge. I have Dairyland insurance with road side assistance on our bikes and one had to be toed twice this year without any charge. If you call the dealer then you have to pay them.
Did you fill it just before it quit? Could be some problem gas. Might not even be fuel related, crank position sensor for one, lose electrical plug, lose battery connection etc.
For what its worth, you might check the check valve at the rear of the tank on the left side. Sometimes an air lock prevents the demand valve from opening. Slide the sleeve up. You may hear a light pop. If it starts and runs normally, that's the problem.

The tank was about empry when I filled up and rode about 7 miles on it. It ran fine and then went. It almost seemed like it jumped time. It would run sputter backfire and quit. Now it just runs a couple of seconds and stops.
