Well I don't know what is clunking only that when I push the starter button it clunks and barley turns over (only after running cranks good when cold). I got it with 1700 miles and have not changed anything mechanical. What is a comp? I have not load tested the Batt. it is maybe 3 years old so getting out there battery wise, and usually on a tender . do I just put my meter on it and crank? Thanks
My 2012 Ultra started doing this recently. I push the start button and there's this moment of hesitation before starting. It's almost as if the battery doesn't have enough juice to spin the starter. The starter usual spins after that moment of hesitation. I was concerned it might be something serious until I left my bike off the battery tender for only 3 days and it would not start until I recharged it some. This tells me I need a new battery. I'm hoping the momentary starter hesitation will go away once I buy a new battery.
Had the same thing on my 08 ultra. I load tested the batt and it was showing ok on the lower part of the scale.I figured i'd change it anyway and the problems went away. new batt is where i would start especially if it has a few years on it.
Okay sorry I know I've seen threads on this but can't find one.
08 ultra 96" 9k miles sometimes when it is only off for a few minutes after ridding like to get gas the starter clunks and almost won't turn .
Any help thanks Mike
I have an 07 heritage and did same. My Indy replaced te starter clutch ..... Problem solved.

08 with low miles makes the battery a likely culprit. The comp and the starter both should have survived 9,000 miles without issue.
