now that i hear this i believe it does have a five year warranty. i have six of these things going all the time and would like to get more than three years out of them. i'll call them and see what they have to say.
Are you using a "pigtail" type connecting cord on the battery?
That you then plug the tender's cord into?
If so, check the battery pigtail cord carefully.
I have a Schumacher battery maintainer. I was getting an error message from out of nowhere. Upon close inspection, I found that one end of the pigtail cord had a bad connection (where it connects to the battery itself).
I replaced the pigtail cord and it's been fine since.

I have 4 of the Schumakers (all less than a year old) and had one go bad. Wallyworld replaced it after some fuss although it was only 2 months old. The bad thing I have noticed about these is no matter how low the voltage drops after it charges they will not go back to charge mode unless you unplug them and reset them every now and then. I ran a battery down to 11 volts trying to crank one bike while the tender was plugged in and it never went back to charge mode even after several hours of waiting. I will be replacing these with a different brand soon.
Things do go bad. I have a couple HD tenders around here I know it says HD on it must be junk. One lays around out side I use it on the ATV, mowers anything that needs it been laying around out side winter spring ,summer and fall for about 4 years.
Still good as new.
