I've been telling people I'm on the cam at about 2800 rpm
This is exactly what they do. They don't peak though until 3500 though. Great in a lighter bike or for some one that rips it up. I loved mine but this time around 2-up I am going to either bump compression or go a slightly different route.
Hate to admit it but sound was a huge part of decision for me! I wanted good performance (but not right to the limit, it is an air cooled motor with a suspect crank) and if i could have good performance with great sound... Why not?
I love the 204's in my 96. I went from lagging behind the 103 bikes to being able to hang with the new 103HO's. Sound, power and rideability are great with this cam. The only thing I am disappointed with is my mileage. Went from 38-42 to sub 35 most of the time. Even on the highway. Tried autotune and the best tuner in the area, but still not happy with that.

I was still in the 40's with mine unless I was getting on it all over the place. I could pull 210 out of a tank on the slab. From what I have seen with that cam is that if you want it to run right an auto tuner is not going to cut it. Go to some one that knows what they are doing and put it on the dyno. Mine pinged at times until I did. After the competent shop had it in I picked up about 8 ft/lbs and 4 hp in a motor that never pinged again and ran flawlessly.

It's been to the tuner and I cannot complain about the power. Seat of the Pants is great and dyno was only slightly less than I expected (not getting into the dyno discussion) it's just the mileage that aggravates me. Of course then I roll the throttle and the smile reappears....especially when I am next to one of the guys with the new HO motor.

You shouldn't be getting shitty mileage with that cam, its all in the tune. I did a 95" build on an 06 Ultra for my dad set the compression at 9.7 ported heads and 204 cams, it would go 43 - 45 mpg all day long.
I HAD 204's in my ole 2010 SG for 22,000 miles. I didn't leave the dealer without them, one of the best combo's for a 96" engine I ever seen. Awesome low end and mid range was great also. Went eventually to a 106" but wished I'd left it alone.
IMO 204's properly tuned in a 96" is one if not the bestest cam's you can choose. Guess you know I liked them.

I dont have your exact cam but have a "torque cam". I was getting 41-42mpg before and 38-39 after the cam install with tune. I do smell more gas now but I attribute that to the engine's new desire for power... I went up over 20% in torque and hp. Do you want oerformance ot fuel economy. You don't get both.
