Your being mis-informed. The 2 year warranty covers more than power train issues. I don't own one, but I believe that the extended warranty kicks in after the 2 year factory warranty expires. The extended warranty isn't backed by HD, but some other company. I wouldn't do business with anyone who was as dishonest as this place seems to be. Ask the owner or manager, maybe it's just the sales guy, and not representative of the dealership.
actually, the esp runs concurrent with the factory warranty. the esp gives you a couple of things the factory warranty doesn't. should you have a breakdown while out on the road, the factory warranty will cover the bike. the esp will cover towing, lodging, etc.
and yes, your salesperson is lieing through his teeth, or, doesn't have a clue, or both.....
There is a member on here who is a manager at a dealership who knows all about ESP and has even sold them to members of this forum... maybe someone will remember who he is or heck, maybe he can even chime in.
What shocks the heck out of me is in that same post where the general manager chimed in about ESPs - a member (on here) said he was reluctant to purchase an ESP (in part due to the cost but moreover the sales guy was pushing and pushing the purchase) and the manager/friend walks in and tells the salesguy to sell him the ESP at cost which was (basically) only $500.00
If you do decide to get the ESP call Scot Dormier at Emerald City HD in Lynwood WA. 425-921-1100 or email sdormier@emaeraldcityhd.com .
He sold me a 7 yr plan with tire and wheel for much less than anyone else quoted. The tire and wheel coverage will run concurrent to the 2 yr warranty.
As stayed, the ESP does run along the Factory and offer some perks.
Yes, you can buy the ESP from any dealer that will sell it to you - note - not all dealers will or can sell to all 50 states - have to call and check
Jim Palmer has the best prices - his third party ESP is a little different and a LOT cheaper than most othet HD - Jim will / can NOT sell to Calif
I will Bet (Unless you have a video/recording of the salesman - he will say (when cornered) that he did not tell you that - about the factory warranty
If there is still time here - i would call every dealer within 200 miles and just ask - price on ESP
Yes, you can wait till the end of your factory warranty to buy the ESP - However, the longer you wait - you will be subject to Harley Price increases along the way. I promise you . The price at the time you buy and 24 months later WILL be different.
I was going to wait also OR buy from Jim Palmer (not) Getting the ESP was not the question - chose Not to wait the 24 months and eat any price increase. Here in noth/central Calif /September 2015 - $2134 / no tire, wheel - sametime - Eagles Nest, Larhrop Ca = $3K for same ESP/no tire, wheel Eagles Nest = biggest rip off in the area
Be an informed shopper - be like good lawyer - when you walk into a dearlef , Know the (general) answer to any question you ask - this way, you can call BS at the moment
Of course - you cant know everything - but having good general knowledge - helps you Immensely
if you buy the esp at time of purchase, you can roll the cost of the esp into the loan. sure, you'll pay interest on the amount, but if you have a good loan it isn't that much. plus, if the bike ***** the bed on a roadtrip, the esp will put you up and feed you. your factory warranty won't do that.
