I would not mount hard drive ipods, only flash based (nano and shuffle).

I just bought a Ram mount and an otterbox ($10 @ ebay) for my old 1G ipod shuffle. That way I don't have to worry about it in the rain since it is waterproof.

http://www.otterbox.com/products/ipod_cases/mounts.htm

If it works pretty good, I'll buy one for the nano, but waiting till apple releases a nano that has at least 16gb, my library is <12gb

Thinking about buying a cheap retractable aux cable, unless I can find a 1' or smaller one for a clean look.

Nice looking CHROME mount at http://www.ridersclaw.com/.
I wouldn't be too concerned about "vibration" as long as you have one of the newer flash drive iPod Nano's.
Vibration, dropping them on the ground... no longer an issue for Apple's iPod.

About 2 weeks ago, I saw a really trick set up. I-pod was mounted inside the dash below the ignition of an RK. Looked trick. Seems the guy took a piece of alum and cut out for the buttons/controls. Must have cut the lower dash to put it in there, and then topped it off with a full length of stickum plastic (to keep water out). The new piece looks factory after being polished out. Wish I would have taken a picture, but I'm planning on doing the same thing for my ****tail (yea, I realize I'm in the 'wrong section').

Brian,

What seat are you running on your bike? And which fairing do you have for your Road King?

Ciao,
Jason

I installed an aftermarket Pioneer head unit which comes complete with a USB patch cable that plugs into the back of the head unit. From there I routed the wire up behind the windshield and dropped my Nano into the pocket of a windshield bag. This keeps the iPod charged and my Biketronics mounting kit allows full iPod control through the deck via my stock handlebar controls. No mussin, no fussin and I never have to touch the iPod. Now that's what I call PERFECT!

Sell your HK head unit for 500+ on ebay or HDF classifieds, buy a decent head unit, the biketronics mounting kit, and still have enough change to buy an iPod Nano. Now that's using your head. Zero cost upgrade, way more power from the new 50watt head unit, and your golden! Takes an hour to install.

Took me a while to find it again, as I had lost all of my stuff saved on another computer. Here is the company I was talking about with the dash insert that allows for an ipod to be mounted under it. It is probably the same thing that 'powaypete' is talking about. An awesome setup, IMO. They do not make one for the rk custom, otherwise, I would already have it... http://www.lowlife-kustoms.com/products.htm

I don't understand why anyone with an electraglide would spend a bunch of money to mount something as small as an ipod. I mount my Sansa Mp3 player with a strip of velcro on my fuel tanks dash console...I think you can just see it in my signature photo. This gives me easy access to the controls and I can even read the display. When I get off I peel up my Mp3 player and there is just a tiny strip of black on the dash; which looks fine with the black and silver scheme I have. I ran the cord for it out of the fairing, under the fuel tank, along the frame and it doubles back under the nose of the seat....all secured with zip ties.

For a weather cover, I cut the clear plastic tray that the unit came packaged in out and cut a small access hole for the headphone jack. It press fits snugly over the player and is flexible enough that I can still use all the buttons...just not the scroll wheel.

If anyone is interested, I can take a picture.
Thats what I do just a small peice of velcro on the gas door and a 9in aux jack cord. I have a waterproof RCA MP3 player no need for a cover. Get to where I'm going pop it off and stick it in my pocket.
