Finally decided to go with the caliper mount 50 watt Motolight driving lights. They gave me 20% off holiday special, free shipping and free 50 Watt upgrade from the 30 watt bulbs.
Have read a bunch of good stuff about them, and have wanted a good quality driving lamp not a fog lamp for my dresser. Comes with a harness to plug into the acc plug with relay.
I'll post some results after getting them mounted up.
I did the brushed aluminum caliper mounts with 50 watt bulbs, original rings, with the FL harness. $351 shipped. Should be plug and play with the acc switch.
Finally decided to go with the caliper mount 50 watt Motolight driving lights. .
From a drivers point of view, those are a REALLY good investment. Out of all the bikes I see everyday, the bikes with moto lights on the calipers are the most noticeable regardless of type of headlight. Now that I finally got into 2015 with an LED headlamp, those moto lights are my next purchase!
I love mine. Had them for 5 years now and it's one of the better additions. Very easy install. Still have the 50 watt bulbs, but might switch over to their LED bulb kit.
I have caliper mount Moto Lights on my '11 that I transferred from my '06 - love 'em...
I upgraded a while back to the 4 watt LED because I wasn't looking for light to help me see, rather to be seen. The 4 watt LED are very bright and noticeable to on-coming traffic and do add light right in front of the tire - and take a lot less juice, saving on the electrical system and running waaaaay cooler...
With Phase 7 LED headlight, Phase 6 LED passing lamps, Custom Dynamics Eyclipze 2 (full intensity) LED running/turn signal inserts, CD fender tip light, SuperBright LEDs retrofitted into the old style HD lighted windshield trim - about as much light from the front as possible...
With the passenger floor board lights and saddlebag latch lights (both retrofitted with SuperBright LEDs); CD Dynamic Cluster rear turn inserts, CD rear main light, CD dual intensity rear fender tip light (these three connected thru the CD brake strobe); LED Wing Tour Pak rack light; and Strobe-ing Tower bulbs in the Tour Pak lights for side and rear lighting - I've been accused of looking like a boat on 'Venetian Night' at the Chicago lake front.
Kit showed up in two days. Very easy install and the kit had everything needed right down to the cable ties. I am very happy with them so far, the quality seems very good and the FL harness made it easy to wire and works on the acc switch.
I went with the 50 watt bulbs because Motolight told me they were brighter than the led and I wanted more light down the road. These things are bright. At $350 bucks shipped I am happy. I also like the fact that it is easy to change bulbs down the road if I change my mind.
