OK..... Went and upgraded my stereo system to the 8.19 version on my '07 ultra.
Seemed like it all went 'ok' said it was all completed etc.
Now My CB doesn't work at all.
Is this a coincidence ... and I'm just going crazy ..... but I can no longer send/receive via my CB
Upgraded my HD system on Thursday Night. I rode in solo on Friday ... and Friday Noon trying to use my CB to talk to my wife in the cage no longer works.
I can 'hear myself' when I try and transmit but no reception from anyone (even my bud with his '07 ultra sittin right next to me on the same channel. Can't transmit nor can't receive.
using CB kit that cam with the ultra ... and 3/4 BURNOUT HD Helmet ..... never had an issue with it till now.
Also ... just to make sure it wasn't the main connector I did also try it off of the rear-passenger connector as well.... I can hear myself as if I'm transmitting... but nothing leaving or comin in from the CB.
well.... ok... I guess I forgot 5% of the story on this one (now that the antena has been brought up).
I believe the "CB" antenna is on the 'left' of the tour pak.
I was washing my bike (prior to going out of town with it) and looked underneath and low-n-behold the nut/washer/curved spacer was missing from the back fo the tour pack to the support bracket. ... I was like hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm this shouldn't be. So I had to go down to the HD parts on Thursday and get a new curved spacer, washer and nylon nut. In order to get install it I had to take out the tour pack liner so I could get to the bolt which was just sticking through the tour pack and through the support bracket.
I saw that 'allen-bolt' was the bolt which is the ground for the CB Antenna. Looks fine to me... so I bolted it back together and that was that.
So I also got the thought that perhaps the grounding wire 'broke' somewhere in the line. So to test that theory out I ran a temporary ground myself but still no luck.
Might just have to break down and call the dealer and let them fix it ...... since it is a warrenty item.
Last ditch effort was I went into the diagnostics and did a RESET. That did virtually nothing. I was hoping it would RESET the radio back to the 8.11 version which was on the radio when I bought the bike ... but all it seemed to do was blank out all my saved radio stations... lol.
Not sure how the Ultra antennas are set up, but my Classic's radio antenna (not CB antenna- don't have one) is on the left, standing behind the bike & looking at the tour pack.
Sure you've got the right antenna hooked up?
You got lucky! I upgraded mine about a month ago(version 8.19) and it locked my radio up. No sound, buttons would do nothing but the display was lit up. The dealer ended up having to replace the stereo, under warranty. I will not be doing anymore updates myself. The first one I did went great, but I'm not taking chances with it anymore, a new one would cost $1000.00 out of pocket if not covered.
I upgraded about a month ago, also. I haven't tried the CB, yet, but I swear the station preset buttons don't work for a longer period of time after the radio is turned on. In other words... before the upgrade, I turned on the radio, it came on, started playing the current station, but I could hit one of the presets and change the station almost immediately. Now, however, I turn the radio on, it starts playing the current station, but if I hit a preset it does nothing... have to wait about 30 seconds for the preset buttons to start working.
