Detro996 - I'm very interested in your loop if you wouldn't mind sharing.
We've been going for years on the sportbikes, but this year (1st week of June) we are taking the hogs. Last year we realized we had taken the track to the street, and since then we've decided to track ride at the track. Too risky. We actually quit riding the Dragon on the weekends, but we do go up for lunch on Saturday to see the bikes. It should be a very different trip for us this year.
Thanks in advance!
I'll put it together and email it to you. Thats cool, I'm not quite ready to give up on the sportbikes. Its fun just to cut a nice comfortable pace and everyone stay on the same page. I had a friend get killed back in 2000 and that took the whole every man for himself attitude out of the equation. When we get to the end of the road I want every one there so now I will not go with anyone that is not a seasoned rider and is willing to ride the pace. It still requires all your concentration and you can do an entire weekend without thinking of anything other than the next curve. I've never done my loop on the Harley, seems everytime I get up there I want to be on a sportbike. I can deal with going to Helen though and riding it up there. Making the ride there and back the ride and not really doing much riding while up there. I'm not sure if you've been down to the North Georgia area, but the roads down there are sweet. My loop starts in North Georgia makes a big cirlce around to the gap and then back down. It takes from sun up to sun down on the sportbikes, but there are many different variations and or ways to shorten it.
Hey Detro, share your loop with everyone! Put in the rides forum, I'm sure lots of people would like a nice alternative to the rice race that the Dragon has become.
Hey Detro, Will be up last week of May, have a cabin in Cashiers, NC that my dad built back in 1951. If you can post your loop, I may give it a try. Probably do not want to try it after eating at the Dillard House. I know alot of the roads and look forward to going on some off the beaten track.
I just got back from the area on Sunday. We opted to stay in the hotel on Sat. cause of the rain. We did ride Deals Gap on Sunday morning. It was slightly crowded with all the sportbikes and Mini's, but we had a good time. I love the area and cant wait to go back.
I'll be staying in Gatlinburg all next week with a group of 9 bikes. We'll be riding the Dragon next Wednesday. I've riden it several times on my metric cruiser, but this'll be the first time on my Ultra . . . looking forward to it.
Yep, weekend are for the kids and their death wish, the weekdays are for real folks.
The Cherohala Skyway is better, but still uncomfortable on the weekends.
Will be ridingthe Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, Maggie Valley the second week of June. Will be riding the Natchez Trace the weekend before, before heading over toDeals Gap the next day. Then will ride Deals Gap and the Smoky Mountains during the week when the traffic is not as bad.
